Principal's Message

Principals September Message

Welcome Parents and Guardians,
It is my honor to welcome you to the 2021-2022 school year at Nickle. To all of our returning students and families, welcome back. To our new students and families welcome to the Nickle school community. As many of you know, I joined the Nickle school community half way through last year and I am looking forward to beginning the school year with the students.
Once again, the start–up to the school year has been busy as we navigate the realities of COVID-19 and the various restrictions we have in place to prevent the spread and keep all our students and staff safe. This year grade 7-9 students are once again enrolled in option classes, grade 6-9 students have lockers and many students are moving from class to class rather then staying in one room the entire day. To help minimize the spread of COVID all staff and students and any visitors to the building need to wear a mask, we have hand sanitizers throughout the building and we have students using specific doors for entry and exits.
Over the first two days of the school year, I visited all the homerooms to deliver the same message about my vision for the school year. I want the Nickle School community to be a safe, kind and caring school community where all students can have a positive school experience. It is something that I can say, our school staff can say, but it is our students that help create that community. I challenge all students to help create this safe, kind and caring community.
At Nickle School, we have minimal fees; our primary fees are for field trips, athletics, for consumable supplies in Construction and Foods and for the rental of band equipment. If families have any question, regarding fees please reach out to their teachers or to the main office.
At Nickle School, our cell phone policy is basic; it is the expectation that students have their phones in their backpacks or their lockers unless their teachers are allowing them to use it for educational purposes. If a student is not compliant and is using their cellphone for non-educational purposes or their teacher has asked them to put it away and they refuse they will be required to turn their cell phone into the office.
Our main office staff includes myself, Dr. Munroe our Assistant Principal, Mrs. Frayne our resource teacher, Shelly Kolb our Secretary and Shari Mackenzie our Admin Secretary.
If you want to get involved at Nickle School please visit our school website and look under the get involved tab as there are links to School Council, Parent Society and Band Parents Association.
Once again, Welcome to the new school year.

RT @SASCBE: Our Grade 3/4s had a hands on experience building birds houses after learning about the importance of birds in Calgary. Birds are often seen as spiritual messengers who bridge the natural and spirit world in Indigenous cultures. @DClovis https://t.co/7DoX3d45Ca

RT @CJMCBE: Our Grade 5 students explored Weaselhead Flats today. We learned so much about wetlands, plants, and animals. We studied aquatic invertebrates and saw so many different birds. Thank you to our guide and to our parent volunteers 😃 #WeAreCBE https://t.co/H26VYcj1EY
