| Oki, Tansi, Hello Families, Thank you to everyone for making the first two months of the year a success! I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to everyone. With our new normal and all of the changes that have come our way, students, staff and parents have come together to keep our strong, caring spirit alive and well. Our teachers have reimagined the physical teaching spaces and given students even more opportunites for land based learning. We are missing being able to bring the school together for assemblies and gatherings as safety is our main concern. However, we are still having cooperative learning experiences held virtually, and including Elders, to support our students as they engage in their work, community and even across different schools! We started Secret Path Week with a Blessing from Elder Saa'kokoto, and last Thursday, teachers took students on a very snowy walk to honour Chanie Wenjack, a young Indigenous boy who died on October 22, 1966. We walked around the school yard contributing kilometers to represent the long journey Chanie made trying to make it home. Students were also able to participate in experiential learning through exploring story and our sunflower harvest before the snow came. We were greateful for the stretch of warm days back in mid-October. Thank you to students, teachers and families for being flexible, supportive and creative in finding solutions that make Niitsitapi the most wonderful place to learn.
Ayyy, Hand to Heart, Ms. Allison
