Good Morning Natoosi Coffee Shop-Community Inquiry

We have been busy creating our own class coffee shop. We wrote a menu, decided on prices and have been practicing taking on different jobs. Some of our favourites are the cashier, baker, barista and customers. The cashier takes and writes up the order, and exchanges money with customers. The baker cooks food ordered by customers. The barista makes the drinks  and the customers pay for and enjoy their orders.

We also used a salt dough recipe to make some baked goods for our coffee shop. The recipe is below:

*CAUTION: This recipe is for play food only. Do not eat the salt dough at any point!

Salt Dough Recipe

-1 cup of flour

-1/2 cup of salt

-1/2 cup of warm water

1. First, measure the flour.

2. Then, pour in the salt.

3. Add in the warm water, little by little as you stir the ingredients all together.

4. Add more water as needed to get the consistency of dough.

5. Use the dough to make your bakery items.

6. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

7. Cool and let harden overnight.

8. Paint with watercolours.

Math: Making 10

We read the story One is a Snail Ten is a Crab by April Pulley Sayre and Jeff Sayre. In the story, each character represents a number, based on the number of feet they have. Different characters can be combined to make different numbers. Students have been exploring ways to make 10 using different combinations of characters from the story. Some students explored combinations for higher numbers. Check out some examples below!
