Oki, Tansi, Hello Families,

Welcome to your child's first year at Niitsitapi!  I'm excited to be back in the preschool program and can't wait to see all of the students.  It's an amazing opportunity for me to meet some new students and see some familiar younger siblings (can't believe how big they are now!).  The purpose of this website is to offer monthly posts of what is happening in the classroom.  Your child will also bring home a weekly newsletter to keep you updated on their learning.

I will be the teacher connected with both preschool classrooms which will also be supported by Early Child Practitioners (ECP):

Ms. Vjollca
Ms. Jo
Ms. Sharlene
Ms. Christine

Reminders
Backpack
Extra clothing
Indoor shoes
Water bottle
Snacks are optional (breakfast/lunch, and snacks are provided)

I look forward to connecting with your families soon!  I will be calling you to touch base in the next week or so.  If you have any questions in the meantime or future, feel free to reach out.

September

The students spent the month of September becoming familiar with each other and their surroundings.  We practiced learning friends' names by singing name songs at circle time.  The students developed a sense of routine with daily classroom activities.  We enjoyed the warm weather by playing outside and exploring the environment with our senses.

October

This month, the Preschool students focused on learning about Halloween and the Fall season.  They did Halloween crafts including paper mummies and tissue paper pumpkins.  The students practiced their counting with the song 5 Little Pumpkins.  We continued our outdoor exploration by starting visits to the playground where we learned about fall colours.

November

This month, the Preschool class learned about Remembrance Day and the idea of peace.  The students also learned about Metis culture and traditions for Metis week.  We bundled up to play and explore in the snow outside.  The students tried their hand at cooking bannock.

December

This month, the Preschool class prepared for winter with a focus on the Gingerbread Man.  We read the story together, and acted it out to build the students' understanding of sequencing.  The students explored the concepts through play such as using Gingerbread scented play dough and decorating gingerbread cookies.  The students were very excited to start winter break with a visit from Santa.  I look forward to seeing the students again after the holidays!

January

The students transitioned back from winter break, this month, and practiced getting back into school routine.  We focused on the winter season including learning about snowflake and exploring snowy outdoors with shovels.  This month, the class read the story The Napping House which helped the students build their understanding of sequencing.

February

This month, the students focused on the concept of showing kindness with one another.  They practiced this skill by taking turns during board games and sharing toys during play time.  We learned the Blackfoot song kitsiikakomim about saying I Love You to the special family and friends in our lives.
