Lunch Supervision

The Calgary Board of Education provides students with the option to stay at school for lunch. Lunch Supervision is offered to all students in Grades 1- 6 and in our full-day kindergarten programs for an annual fee. Please visit our Lunch Supervision page for information.

Students must bring their own healthy lunches. They are encouraged to pack only healthy/brain-food lunch items to school, in accordance with CBE Administrative Regulation 3047 - Nutrition as well as the Canada Food Guide Guidelines.  Students are asked to try to make their lunches as litter-less as possible to help the environment, and reduce our school's waste/ garbage footprint.

Lost Items

Due to the large number of lost lunch packs, containers, water bottles and ice packs that always seem to appear in the Lost and Found, please write the student’s full name on all their lunch items. This will greatly help us in getting those lost lunch packs and belongings back to the right students as quickly as possible.

Northern Lights School is an ‘Allergy Aware’ school.  In each classroom, a sign is posted for inform about any severe allergies present in that classroom, allergy alert stop signs are posted on individual desks, and Epi-Pen signs hang above backpacks to indicate where emergency medications are contained. We educate all students and staff on how to keep their hands and work surfaces clean of allergens, and offer options for where students with allergens can eat if their parents so choose.  Although we do not ban any food items from the school, many families consider sending alternative food options for their child if a severe allergy to a certain food exists in their homeroom class.

Parents must indicate any special health concerns on the school registration for their child and are encouraged to ensure classroom teachers are also aware of health issues. For more information about this and other health concerns visit our Illness & Medical page.

Fun Lunches

Our School Council may offer Healthy Hunger Fun Lunch opportunities approximately once a month for Grades 1 – 5.  More information will be available later in the year.
