Storytelling Residency with Cheryle Chagnon-Greyeyes The week of March 13-17, Cheryle will join classes throughout the week to focus on medicine wheel teachings that incorporate storytelling, singing and drumming. Cheryle is a Cree-Metis woman who, through her storytelling experiences, will help us to move forward in a good way with our Truth and Reconciliation commitment, “How do stories connect to spirit, heart, body and mind?”

| Dear OSG Families, As we move into the final school week of 2022, we would like to thank you for your continued support. You are truly partners with us in your child(ren)’s educational journey. We are looking forward to 2023 and all of the exciting opportunities ahead as we remain committed to achievement, equity and well-being.
Community Parent Education Program
Hull Services continues to partner with CBE to provide FREE, optional parenting courses through the Community Parent Education Program (CPEP). Valley View School will be hosting the next in person course starting on the evening of January 26th. The courses run once a week for the duration of 8 evenings. The benefit of in-person classes is that parents with children aged 5 - 12 can attend and learn important skills in a fun and active manner in the children's group portion of the program. An invitation was emailed to OSG families on December 18.

| Dear OSG Families, Outbreak Status Lifted We are happy to let you know that AHS has lifted the Outbreak Status that was assigned to us on November 11. Our illness rates have been steadily declining and we thank you for continuing to keep your child(ren) home when they are ill. Please remember to call our absence line at 403-777-6950 ext. 1 when your child will be absent and include the reason for the absence in your message.
Mission Impossible Students in all classes will be developing their balance, agility and focus this week as they participate in “Mission Impossible” in the gym for PE. Mission Impossible is the end of the gymnastics unit where students challenge themselves as they move through a variety of stations using all of the skills and strategies they have been working on in gymnastics.
School Council and Parent Society We are in great need of participation in the O.S. Geiger School Council and Parent Society. School Council vs. Parent Society
School Council School councils exist to advise the principal and the Board of Trustees on school matters. The school principal and at least one teacher at the school must be members of the school council.
Parent Society
A formal group of parents, incorporated under the Societies Act for the purpose of raising funds for the school. A society is a separate legal entity from the school council. The school principal is not part of this group. Meetings for both the School Council and Parent Society meet on the third Monday of each month either in-person at the school or virtually through Microsoft Teams. An invite to the next meeting, Monday, December 19 at 6:00 PM will be email to you later this week.

| Dear OSG Families, It is hard to believe that October is coming to an end. We hope your families had a wonderful Fall break and have enjoyed the beautiful weather we have had this fall. We also want to wish a very Happy Diwali to all families celebrating on Monday!
School Council Our School Council is up and running and we had the first in-person meetings since the spring of 2020. Coming to School Council meetings is a great way to stay informed about what is happening in and around the school, provide feedback about programs and activities that happen at the school including fundraising opportunities. Our next School Council meeting is on Monday, November 21 at 6:00 pm in the school learning commons.
Student Learning Conferences Please be sure to book a Conference time to meet with your child(ren)’s teacher to hear about the learning that is happening in their classroom. This is an important opportunity to talk one-on-one with the teacher to learn about your child(ren)’s achievement and well-being at school at this time in the school year. | Welcome OSG Families to the 2022-2023 school year! Our staff have been busy getting ready and are very excited to begin the new school year with students! There have been some changes to teaching staff and support staff. Please see the Our Staff page for updates. This year at OSG, we are committed to increasing our communication with families to strengthen our relationships with you and build our school community. On the Our Staff page you will see the link beside each teacher’s name to their Twitter page. Teachers will be sharing classroom news and photos through Twitter to keep families informed of classroom and school updates as well as the learning that is happening in each learning space. In addition, on the last school day of each week, you will receive an email from your child’s teacher sharing a message from their class about what they have been doing and learning throughout the week at school.
We had a great first week back at school and last Friday, we had our first assembly in over 2 years! Students practiced being a respectful audience as they listened to a story about kindness, learned how to safely cross the street from our Patrol Team and learned a new song with Mr. Katchur. We look forward to more opportunities throughout the year to share and celebrate our learning with families!

| Hello OSG Families, As we say farewell to the 2021-2022 school year, we have the opportunity to reflect back on all the challenges we have overcome, the celebrations that we have had and the learning that we have seen across all classrooms at O.S. Geiger School.
We are so proud of the perseverance students and staff have shown this year and how students continue to engage in new learning experiences with curiosity, enthusiasm and focus.
We wish you all a safe, relaxing, happy summer break and look forward to seeing all returning students on the first day of school on August 15th. Finally, good luck to all grade 6 students moving on to junior high and students that will be transitioning to new schools for 2022-2023. We will miss you all and wish you all the best in your new adventures!

| Dear OSG Families, It is hard to believe that our Winter Break is fast approaching!
We have had a successful start to the 2021-2022 school year and students and staff are showing outstanding levels of resiliency in response to the impacts COVID-19 has had on our school and community. We want to thank all of our families for your ongoing support of the health and safety measures in place to help keep everyone safe at school.
We are excited to welcome 5 new staff members to OSG! Ms. Doha and Ms. Dhaliwal have joined the lunchroom supervision team and Ms. Tammy will be joining room 18 as an Education Assistant in our EES program after the break. Ms. Rae and Mr. Walter have joined the teaching staff as we focus on supporting students in reading and mathematics.
December has been a busy month with many school wide activities happening to keep us learning and growing together! Thank you to our School Council and Parent Society for organizing fundraising events to help raise money for our school. The Mixing Spoon fundraiser has wrapped up this month and our first Healthy Hunger Fun Lunch will be on Wednesday, December 15.
Finally, our Parent Society has been hard at work organizing a casino on December 28 and 29. Any adult family members that are interested in volunteering for this event can contact us in the office.
Students have been having fun thinking of fun, spirit days as we count down to the winter break. Last Friday, we had holiday/favourite sweater day and on Friday, December 17, students are invited to get cozy and ready for the break with pajama day!
We are honoured to have Indigenous Elder, Rick Wolcott, join our classes this week and next week. Elder Rick is a skilled carver and storyteller from British Columbia. He is joining classes to share his stories and help us all to engage with our school wide provocation “How do stories connect to spirit, heart, body and mind?”
We want to take this opportunity to thank our OSG School community for everything you do to make our school such a dynamic, wonderful learning environment. We wish you all a safe, happy winter break and we will welcome students back to school after the winter break on January 6, 2022.

| Dear OSG Families, November has been a very meaningful month with a number of special events happening at our school.
On November 10 we had a school wide Remembrance Day virtual assembly. Students and staff shared poems, artwork and videos to honour those that have made tremendous sacrifices for us and our country. Each classroom created a poppy wreath that was layed on the steps in our Learning Commons to commemorate the bravery and courage of all those that have served in the military. We also observed a moment of silence to reflect on the sacrifices that these soldiers have made for us.
On November 16-20, we celebrated Metis Week. Student leaders made announcements each day to provide learning opportunities and provocations to our school community so that we could honour the diversity and strength of the Metis ways of knowing that live in our school and our community. On November 16 we honoured Louis Riel and the contribution that he made by leading the Métis people of western Canada during the Red River and North-West Resistance.
Thank you to all families that participated in our “virtual” Student Learning Conferences last week. Whether you joined your child’s teacher on the telephone or through Microsoft Teams, we value the relationships we have with you in support of the learning of all students.
On the Professional Learning Day on Friday, November 20, teachers met in Professional Learning Communities to examine evidence of student learning and develop tasks using high impact strategies to improve student achievement in reading. Teachers are focusing on providing specific feedback to students in small, targeted groups as they work toward their personalized learning goals.
As the Calgary weather gets colder, please be sure your child comes to school dressed for the weather. There are multiple opportunities for students to be outside throughout the school day and it is important that they are warm and dry when outside.
Thank you all for your continued support to adhere to the CBE and AHS COVID-19 guidelines and protocols. Students have shown tremendous responsibility as they work hard to be safe and healthy while at school. Please ensure your child comes to school with a mask every day and that you are completing the COVID-19 Alberta Health Daily Checklist (for children under 18) every morning at home to determine if your child should come to school.
