School Access
The front doors will now be secured and locked at all times. When you approach the front doors you will see a call panel on your left. Please press the button and wait until the front office staff answer your call. The front office will confirm your identity before allowing you to enter the school. Please look up at the camera when speaking. The before and after program will continue to use the same system as before.
Entry/Exit
Students are assigned doors nearest their classrooms for regular entry and exit. For security purposes, these doors are locked after morning, lunch and recess entry. Students arriving late must use the front doors and check in at the office. Students use their assigned doors for exit at the end of the day.
Visitors & Volunteers Sign-In
All parents, visitors and volunteers must report directly to the office and receive a visitor card before proceeding to other areas of the school. This is an additional security measure to keep our school safe. Please note that, under no circumstances, can a visitor (including parents) go to the classrooms without checking-in to the office first.
Recess
All students are expected to go outside for recess and lunch recess. We ask that students come suitably dressed for the weather. An indoor recess will be held when weather conditions pose a safety concern, or when it is colder than -20C (with or without the wind chill factor).
Playground Supervision
Due to our “soft entry” supervision is not provided outside in the morning. The doors at the North and South ends of the school will be unlocked at 7:55 AM so that all children may enter the building. Staff will be in classrooms to supervise students from 7:55 to 8:10, when school begins. A staff member will be stationed at the “Hug & Go” section on the street near the South door to help students out of cars and help them get into the building. Families using the “Hug & Go” area are asked to be as quick as possible when dropping students off. If they wish to walk their children to the doors, they must park beyond the “Hug & Go” zone. Please note that only staff vehicles are permitted in the parking lot and students should not be brought in through the front doors unless they are late for school. Students using the playground after 2:55 PM are assumed to have parental permission, and parents are responsible for their child's own safety.
Playground
In accordance with CBE policy, and to prevent accidents or injuries bicycles, skateboards, inline skates, scooters and sleds of all types are not to be used on school grounds. As well, for safety reasons, backpacks must not be worn while on the creative playground. All students are asked to use the equipment as it is intended to be used.
Fire Drills
Detailed plans are in place to respond to fire and other emergency situations. Practice fire drills are held on a regular basis. All students and adults are required to evacuate the building during fire drills. Many drills are held without warning, therefore, it is essential that students wear indoor footwear at all times.
