Dear Families,
Welcome to December! We have a busy month ahead at Patrick Airlie and I wanted to share some important details about our school community and dates for your calendar.
Firstly, I would like to thank everyone for their cooperation around parking and safety at drop-off and pick-up. We are seeing a definite improvement! This will continue to be a priority for us as safety is an ongoing concern. Please note, we are waiting on the delivery of some new signage to put up around the school and parking lot to further support this work.
We had a wonderful turnout at Parent Teacher Conferences and our staff appreciated meeting with families. Learning is a team effort between home and school, your voice and attendance at Conferences was valued.
This week (December 4-7) our grade 5 students are at Camp Chief Hector for Outdoor School. We know they are sure to have a wonderful week of learning and outdoor fun. A special thank you to Ms. Halls, Ms, Griswold and Ms. Taylor for their leadership on this trip. Grade 5 families, please note that we expect the students back prior to dismissal on Thursday. As mentioned at the parent meeting, if they are here earlier, we will contact you to come pick them up.
December 8 is a non-instructional day which means no school for our students.
On December 13 we are having a Winter Solstice Celebration for our school community. We are excited to invite families for our 1:30pm show. Our celebration will include solstice storytelling and drum songs from our Indigenous Knowledge Keeper, Hal Eagletail and winter-themed performances from all students. Ms. Shelby has been working with the students in Music class to prepare for this presentation. We can't wait!
On December 19, our grade 2, 3, 4 and 5 students will be walking to Forest Lawn High School to watch a Dance Performance put on by Forest Lawn students. More information will be sent home in a letter, prior to this date.
We have a few Spirit Days leading up to Winter Break. December 20 is our Wear Something Festive Day, December 21 is Wear White for Winter Solstice and December 22 is our Comfy Cozy Day and students are encouraged to wear PJ's or something comfy, bring a stuffy etc.
Hal Eagletail will back on December 21 to do storytelling with all our students. This is in honour of the Winter Solstice. We always appreciate Hal's knowledge and teachings and look forward to this special day of learning.
The last day of classes, before Winter Break is Friday, December 22. Classes resume on Monday, January 8, 2024.
Lastly, a reminder to speak to Ms. Bawar in the office for support, if you need to create your MyCBE account. With report cards on the horizon, it is vital that all families have a working login.
Any questions, please reach out to your child's teacher or the main office. We appreciate the continued support of our parent community.
All the best,
Mary-Elizabeth Kaiser
