We believe in the strength of relationship between a student and their teacher. At Peter Lougheed, each student is enrolled into a homeroom. Their homeroom teacher is an important advocate and go-to adult for students while in middle school. Their homeroom teacher will also be one of their CORE teachers. Each student will have two CORE teachers. CORE classes involve the instruction of Math & Science and Humanities (English Language Arts and Social Studies).
In addition to these courses, each student will have approximately one hour of physical education instruction each day. To complete their day, students will be provided opportunities in Explore Courses, which include; Music, Fine Arts and Career Technology Foundations. Our school year is divided into two terms. Over the course of a school year, each student will have the same two CORE teachers and physical education teachers, but will also have opportunity to work and learn with several explore instructors. Our instructional day allows for students to have large blocks of dedicated time to their CORE subjects. We operate with a rotating Day 1, Day 2 schedule, which allows for students to have dedicated time for their Explore Courses.
We believe in ongoing communication between school and home. Parents are partners in supporting their child to having success at school. We use a comprehensive approach to communicating with parents and students. Teachers share assignments, resources, program updates, assessments and individual progress on key assignments throughout the school year.
