School Access

All visitors to the school are expected to enter through the front doors and sign in with the main office.

  • For access please ring the doorbell to the LEFT of the Security Key pad on the north wall in the vestibule area of the front doors.

Please wait to hear the “click” of the lock opening. Once in the school, proceed directly to the main office and sign in. Our office staff will be happy to help with your questions and direct you to the appropriate location if you are here for a meeting.

Visitors & Volunteers

At Queen Elizabeth School we welcome every opportunity to connect with parents / guardians including the casual meet and greet moments that take place when you drop-off and pick-up your children. We encourage parents to establish routines and meeting spots for after school pick up times. If you need to go beyond the front foyer to a classroom, at any time of day, we then require that all visitors or volunteers sign-in and pick up a visitor tag at the office. This also applies to the modular classrooms.

Playground Supervision

Teachers begin supervision of student entry each morning at 8:20 AM, fifteen minutes prior to school starting. Students should arrive at school after these times and before the 8:30AM bell rings. Students are expected to come in to the building during soft entry as there is no morning playground supervision. Students are asked not to play or wait for friends in front of the school, as this is a high traffic area. Outdoor activities will be cancelled only if it is extremely wet or cold. Please dress for the weather.  There is no school-sponsored supervision on the playgrounds after school.

During the lunch hour, staff supervise children who stay for lunch on the playground during their recess times. We ask that students that go home for lunch not return earlier than the lunch ending warning bell.

Lockdowns

All CBE schools are required to practice lockdowns in the same way that we practice fire drills. The procedures for lockdowns are developed with the Calgary Police Service and are part of each school’s Emergency Response Plan. If you have questions about lockdown drills or lockdown procedures, please contact your principal.

Evacuation Procedures

In the event that the school needs to be evacuated for any reason, all staff have been trained according to CBE standards. All schools have a primary and a secondary evacuation site. In the event of an evacuation, you will receive an email, phone or SMS notification from the school.
