Important Dates

We follow the CBE traditional calendar. The calendar sets common start and end days, non-instructional days and holidays. For our school’s additional non-instructional days, late entries, early dismissal days and events, see our school calendar page.

The Calgary Board of Education continues to plan for the health measures that may be in place for the next school year. More details will be shared with families before the first day of classes.

Find the latest information on the CBE website and the Alberta Government website.

Back to School Information

Students are encouraged to take advantage of Early Entry drop in on Monday, August 30 and Tuesday, August 31.  Please come anytime between 8:30 am and 11:30 am or 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm either day (it should take between 15 and 30 minutes to complete everything).

**Please note: only students can enter the building.  Parents are asked to remain outside**

Students will be able to return any resources from last year, hand in forms that can be located online at (https://www.cbe.ab.ca/registration/forms-you-need/Pages/default.aspx) and have their Lifetouch photo taken and school ID card issued. Participating in early entry assists the school to focus on instruction once classes start, so that students can focus on learning. Students, please be prepared (dress, hair) to have your school photo taken.

For all high school students: please have basic school supplies (pen, pencil and paper) with you on the first day.  Junior high students will be given basic school supplies.

Grades 7 and 10 (only) and mental health programs begin school on Wednesday, September 1 , to participate in a day designed to welcome students, and begin the transition to junior high and senior high school, respectively. The day is planned to prepare students for the first full day of classes; it is not an optional attendance day. Students must bring their own lunch. Buses will run on their regular schedule. Parents are invited to view a welcome presentation on our website (there will be a link to the presentation on our home page on the first day of school).  Our Grade 10 and Grade 7 students will be taking part in a team building activity.  They will be working together to make “Winter Socks” for people at the drop-in centre.  Please have your child bring one of the following new items:

  • Gloves, mitts and hats
  • Lip balm and travel size toiletries
  • Cough drops
  • Travel mugs
  • Deodorant (non-alcohol based)
  • Brush and combs
  • Socks and underwear
  • Gift certificates (ie. Tim Horton’s or McDonalds)
  • Chocolates and candy

All students (grades 7-12) will attend school on Thursday, September 2.   On that day, students are expected to be at school prior to 8:58 a.m. Instructions will be provided at that time to assist students in picking up their new timetable and getting to class. Buses will run on their regular schedule. Check your MyCBE/PowerSchool account in late August for your bus stop location.

Please complete or review the following forms, which are located on the CBE website at https://www.cbe.ab.ca/registration/forms-you-need/Pages/default.aspx:  Annual Authorization for Athletic Tryout, Student Health Emergency Response Protocol Form, Student Health Plan, School District Use of Personal Information, Use of Student Information by News Media and Outside Groups, and Consent for CBE Use of Student Information.   A demographic sheet with our current information on your child will be sent home the first week of school.  Please review the form, make any changes, sign the form and return it to the school before September 10, 2021.  Students can give the form to their homeroom teacher or deliver it to the main office.  Only complete the two health forms if they apply to your child.

At Queen Elizabeth High School, we communicate information with parents and guardians in a variety of ways. For current information, parents should regularly consult our school website at http://school.cbe.ab.ca/school/queenelizabethhs/Pages/default.aspx.   Our school will send out email messages with important reminders, timely announcements, etc.

Early in the school year, it is natural for students to get lost, wonder if anyone will get to know them, and to ask many questions. Parents often ask many of the same questions or wonder the same things. At the first School Council meeting on September 20, 2021 (7:00 pm) important orientation information about our school will be presented. We strongly encourage your attendance.

Yellow School Bus Transportation

Yellow school bus routes for the 2021-22 school year are created over the summer and based on the addresses submitted before the pre-registration deadline in June. Transportation continues to accept registrations after the deadline; however, students are added to the closest existing stop with available space. Processing times could be up to six weeks at the beginning of the school year due to volume.

More information about 2021-22 transportation service levels and proposed fees are posted on the CBE website.

Your bus stop location and time will be available in your MyCBE / PowerSchool account by mid-August.

Conditional riders can also register using MyCBE / PowerSchool. Applications will be considered after eligible riders registrations have been processed.

Learn more about transportation on the CBE website.
