Welcome to the 2023-24 School Year

Important Dates

We follow the CBE instructional calendar. The calendar sets common start and end days, non-instructional days and holidays. For our school’s additional non-instructional days, late entries, early dismissal days and events, see our school calendar page.

Back to School Information

Students are encouraged to take advantage of Early Entry drop in on Tuesday, August 29 and Wednesday, August 30, 2023. Junior High students are invited to come anytime between 8:30 am and 11:30 am to have their student ID photo taken either day.  Senior High students are invited to come anytime between 12:30 pm and 2:30 pm either day (it should take between 15 and 30 minutes to complete everything).   Please be prepared (dress, hair) to have your photo taken.

School begins for all students on Thursday, August 31, 2023.  Junior high students will attend in the morning and high school students will attend in the afternoon, beginning at 12:49.  This day is designed to welcome students, and begin the transition to junior high and senior high school, respectively. The day is planned to prepare students for the first full day of classes; it is not an optional attendance day. Students must bring their own lunch. Buses will run on their regular schedule. Please have basic school supplies (pen, pencil and paper) with you on the first day.

All students (Grades 7-12) will attend school on Friday, September 1.   On that day, students are expected to be at school prior to 8:55 a.m.  Buses will run on their regular schedule. Check your MyCBE account in late August for your bus stop location.

The CBE is moving many forms to our online environments.  The following forms will need to be filled out online:  Annual Authorization for Athletic Tryout, School District Use of Personal Information, Use of Student Information by News Media and Outside Groups, and Consent for CBE Use of Student Information, Student Demographic Sheet.   The following forms will need to be filled out on paper:  Student Health Plan, Student Health Emergency Response Protocol Form.  Only complete the two health forms if they apply to your child.

At Queen Elizabeth High School, we communicate information with parents and guardians in a variety of ways. For current information, parents should regularly consult our school website. Our school will send out email messages with important reminders, timely announcements, etc. Watch for Knights' Notes every Wednesday.  This email contains current information for all families.

Early in the school year, it is natural for students to get lost, wonder if anyone will get to know them, and to ask many questions. Parents often ask many of the same questions or wonder the same things. At the first School Council meeting on important orientation information about our school will be presented. We strongly encourage your attendance.

Fees and Waivers

Yellow School Bus Transportation

Yellow school bus routes for the 2023-24 school year are created over the summer and based on the addresses submitted before the pre-registration deadline in June. Transportation continues to accept registrations after the deadline; however, students are added to the closest existing stop with available space. Processing times could be up to six weeks at the beginning of the school year due to volume.

More information about 2023-24 transportation service levels and proposed fees are posted on the CBE website.

Your bus stop location and time will be available in your MyCBE account by mid-August.

Conditional riders can also register using MyCBE. Applications will be considered after eligible riders registrations have been processed. Should routes change or if qualified students are added to a route and the bus becomes overcrowded, conditional riders may be removed to accommodate these changes.

Learn more about transportation on the CBE website.

Calgary Transit

Some students from our school use Calgary Transit to get to and from school.

There are different Calgary Transit fares and passes options and purchasing locations. Students must carry proof of fare every time they use Calgary Transit. More information about fares and routes are available on the CBE website or the Calgary Transit website.

Families can access low-income monthly passes through the City of Calgary's Fair Entry Program. This program offers a streamlined application process for City subsidy programs, including reduced rates for transit passes. You can find more information about the program at www.calgary.ca/fairentry.

Calgary Transit has a “Plan a Trip” tool or families can also call 403-262-1000 for assistance with route planning and questions about Calgary Transit operations. Families do not need to register to use Calgary Transit, including school express routes.
