Principal's Message

Monday Message: September 20, 2021, 2021

Monday Message: September 20th,
Dear Ramsay School Families,
Thank You for Your Diligence
The safety of our students, staff and families remains paramount as the Covid-19 case numbers increase across Alberta. Thank you for continuing to utilize the COVID-19 Alberta Health daily checklist and ensuring students who are ill stay home. It goes without saying that we will continue to call parents anytime a child is unwell and is exhibiting symptoms. We are appreciative of your support and continued diligence throughout this challenging time.
The Tree in Me: How are we resilient as a community?
Our school-wide inquiry around the book, The Tree in Me, has allowed us to come to know and understand the learners in our classrooms: what makes them strong and unique (their trunks), what makes them who they are (their roots), what they care about and care for (their branches, leaves and crowns) and who they are as a part of an ecosystem (family, school, community). Please enjoy the beautiful initial work (K-6) around some of the other learning intentions and learning outcomes students have engaged in thus far, included in our Student Showcase.
What Will Students Learn this Term? Scope and Sequence Documents Ramsay-Style
Parents, in preparation for “Meet the Teacher" this week, on Wednesday, September 22nd, your child's classroom teacher will email you Term One Scope and Sequence. This learning scope and sequence outlines critical outcomes in the form of I CAN statements (learning objectives) taught throughout this reporting period. Within the classroom, all learning outcomes are distinctively broken down into learning intentions for students. Most often, learning intentions are designed by teachers based on pre-assessments and assessment that is on-going. Further, we know that children learn best when given multiple opportunities to engage in learning intentions; that learning is recursive; and that students learn and develop at different rates. In no way does this scope & sequence reflect a “list" of learning beginning to end. However, it does outline the essential learning outcomes taught & assessed throughout the term.
Online Booking System for Virtual “Meet the Teacher" - This Thursday and Friday
Virtual Meet the Teacher will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. this Thursday, September 23rd and from 8:00 – 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 24th. The purpose of this first meet-and-greet is for you to share important information about your child (you are his or her first teacher!) and to connect with your child's teacher. Formal Parent/Teacher Conferences take place in November and March. This is when you will be provided with learning updates specific to your child's achievement and progress.
Welcome Packages: Please Return Important Forms
Please check your child's backpack for an envelope containing important forms. Sending these forms back as soon as possible is not only greatly appreciated but helps to ensure we have the most accurate and up-to-date information on file. Should you have any questions, please reach out to Ms. Calhoun in the office by calling: 403-777-6790.
Student Council
Students in Grades 4-6 are invited to join our Student Council as a “Ramsay Rep" to help listen to the ideas of others, share ideas, take on leadership roles, help with school projects and to contribute through student voice. All interested students need to collect and complete the form from the office and then submit it to Mrs. Scarrow by Monday, September 27th. The first meeting will take place on October 5th during the lunch hour at 12:15.
Orange Shirt Day: Every Child Matters
The Government of Canada has proclaimed Sept. 30 as the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in order to recognize and honour residential school survivors, their families and communities. Thursday, Sept. 30 will be a non-operational day to commemorate truth and reconciliation across the Calgary Board of Education. This means there will be no classes and schools will be closed for the day. As a result of this change, Friday, Dec. 10 will once again be a regular school day. At Ramsay School, we will recognize Truth and Reconciliation Week from Sept. 27 to Oct. 1, 2021. This week will honor Every Child Matters and Orange Shirt Day.

RT @Indigenous_cbe: Today is fall equinox - a time when daylight & nighttime share the sky equally. Today is also Treaty 7 Day - the 144th anniversary of the signing of Treaty 7. The 🌞 & 🌙s equality today teaches us how to honour the walking together in equal partnership. #welcomeoko
