Safety In Our School
To ensure the safety and security of our students, all visitors to the school must enter via the front entrance and sign-in at the office and obtain a visitor tag. Parents/guardians who are in the school to pick up a student or drop items off are considered visitors. Any adult who is in the school without a visitor tag may be approached by a staff member and asked to report to the office.
We are asking that parents be aware of our increased vigilance regarding people wearing identification tags within the building. In the interests of safety, teachers and other staff members may direct adults or teens back to the office for signing in and issuing identification tags. Since all staff members as well as our substitute teachers and support staff, cannot possibly know every sibling, parent or grandparent, please do not be offended if you are approached in the halls.
We appreciate your understanding when you are questioned regarding your purpose and identity. All entry doors to the school, except the front door, are kept locked at all times. Students who walk home for lunch during days when we have indoor recess due to inclement weather, need to enter through the front door upon their return to school. Help us keep Ranchlands School safe for one and all!
Entry/Exit
Each grade group is assigned doors nearest their classrooms for regular entry and exit. For security purposes, these doors are locked after morning, recess and lunch entry. Students arriving late must use the front doors. Students must use their assigned doors for exit to the busses at the end of the day unless a parent is waiting inside the school by the office entrance. Kindergarten students will be met by their teachers at Door 2. Out-of-bounds areas include: the parking lot, Thunder Hill (west of school), field areas beyond the tennis courts, main entrance area and adjoining sidewalks, landscaped areas and flower beds.
Legal Documents
Please advise the office of any changes in the legal status (adoption, name changes, court orders, legal custody) of your child. Schools require a photocopy of a current certified copy of any legal documents governing the custody of its students. The purpose of having these documents is to ensure that the school can clearly identify who has legal custody.
School Telephone Use
Telephones in the school are used for the conducting of school business and in dealing with emergencies as they arise. We discourage students from using the phones for other than school business or in cases of emergency. The telephones located in classrooms may be used, with teacher permission, for these purposes.
