Attendance

Attendance Line: 403-777-8380 ext. 1

Please phone the office at the number above if your child will be absent or late. The line is open 24 hours a day so please leave a message at your convenience. Messages often don’t get relayed from the classroom so please leave a message on the answering machine. The office staff will attempt to contact parents at home or work if a student is absent and we have not been informed by 9:00 AM.

Teachers will follow up on noticeable absenteeism and chronic absenteeism or lates will be followed up by the teacher or school administration. Referrals will be made to the attendance officer if appropriate.

Lates

Students who arrive late must report to the office for a late slip before going to class, otherwise a phone call home may be made to report the student absent. Late slips are given to the teacher. Teachers do not accept students who are late unless they have a late slip.

Appointments During the Day

Parents are requested to notify the school office when students are required to leave for appointments during the day.  For safety and security:

  • Students may not leave the school during regular hours without first reporting to the office.
  • Students leaving the school must be signed out at the office.
  • Students leaving with an adult other than their own parent must have a signed release note.

New Extended Student Absence Policy

The CBE believes there is a strong positive correlation between attendance and effective education. Please see Administrative Regulation 6020 – Attendance of Students.

Section 13(5) of the School Act, excuses students from attending school due to illness or other unavoidable cause, religious holidays, suspension/expulsion, or permission from the Board. It is not the CBE’s responsibility to provide homework to student who will be away on an extended absence.

Please be advised that when you notify our school of an extended student absence, the absence will be listed as an unexcused absence in your child’s school attendance record.
