Celebrations and Cultural Sensitivity

Celebrations and Cultural Sensitivity Our school is rich with cultural diversity, providing many occasions for celebrations. In considering our role in nurturing significant learning as well as a sense of community and belonging, teachers are asked to focus on deeply purposeful classroom learning and to minimize time invested in occasions more appropriately celebrated at home. We are committed to nurturing healthy lifestyle choices and discourage celebrating with sweet, sugary foods.

All assemblies at Richmond School will be preceded by the Acknowledgement of the Land. Our Elders have taught us it’s important to acknowledge the land where we gather and the first peoples who traditionally lived here. It shows respect for people, their contributions and their ways of knowing, which are reflected through the stories and songs that have lived on this land for thousands of years. We are making an acknowledgment to further demonstrate our commitment to work together as a community in laying the foundation for reconciliation through education.
