Happy Tuesday! I hope everyone had a restful family day long weekend.

Here is an overview of what we are learning this week

Dear Parents,

On Monday we will be celebrating our 100th day at school! We will be working on all sorts of fun math and literacy activities that day.  One of the math activities we will be working on will focus on sorting and skip counting.  In preparation for this, your child is coming home with a Ziploc bag that they can fill with 100 small items.  Some examples of these items may be: marshmallows, coins, Q-tips, beads, skittles … the possibilities are endless!  The only request Is that these items must fit inside their Ziploc bag!

You may return this bag anytime and I will store them until Monday, February 22.

Thank you again for all your support!

Monday, February 8th

Here is an overview of what we are learning this week. Please note that we do not have school on Thursday and Friday due to the Teachers Convention as well as Monday February 15th due to Family Day.

Valentines Day:

Unfortunately due to COVID-19 protocols, students will not be allowed to exchange valentine's cards at school. We will celebrate friendship & kindness in ways that keep us safe and healthy. Students are encouraged to dress in Valentine’s Day colours on Wednesday.

Monday, February 1st.

Welcome to term 2! Here is an overview of what we are learning this week. On Tuesday February 2nd, you will be able to view your child's report card in PowerSchool.

Wednesday, February 3rd is Winter Walk Day. During Phys. Ed, Mrs. Prangnell will be taking students on a community walk. They will be exploring walking routes to and from school as well as learning pedestrian safety tips. Going for an outdoor walk is one more way to stay active and improve physical & mental health while exploring our community.

Friday December 18th

Dear Grade 3 Families,

Have a wonderful holiday break! I hope everyone finds some time to relax and enjoy with what has been a year like no other. I feel so lucky to work with each and every one of the students in our class - we have a very special group. A few notes about our first week back which will be a time of online learning from home.

Here is our outline for what online learning will look like from Tuesday January 5 - 8 (Monday is a PD Day).  Our day will start at 9:10 each morning with a virtual meeting. Our schedule will be the same as it is in the classroom. We will follow the general schedule of a lesson for the activity, student work time and a check in when required following the activity. See below for a general outline of the week. Each student has an orange log in card with all of their information that they need to log in - please accept the invite in your childs gmail account to the google classroom in order to be ready for our first meet on the 5th.

Once your child is logged into their Google Meet for the morning or afternoon, give them a hug and wave just as you would when dropping them off at school. Our detailed learning outline will be posted in January.

This Friday, Dec. 18 is Pajama Day! Kids can come to school in their favourite pajamas. It is also our last day of classes before the Winter break.

Important note:

Students will be engaging in online learning the first week after Winter Break, with Monday, January 4 being a Non-Instruction Day. Students will begin online learning on Tuesday, January 5. Please make sure that you have checked if you are able to log in to our Google Classroom.  The invite was sent to your child's gmail account. Email Ms. Millar if you are unsure. It is important that we know this is all working before we leave for the break. :)

Book Reports

Hi Grade three families,

Feedback on student book report presentations will be in powerschool by the end of the week once all students have had the chance to share. Students have done a great job sharing their book reports so far - it has been wonderful seeing the effort and passion for reading that comes across as students share the books they have enjoyed.

Please note that our next book report will be due at the end of January as December is a short month. I will post the report guidelines at the beginning of January after the Winter break. Please see feedback on the first book report which were presented this week in Powerschool.

Happy November! Click here to see what we are learning this week.

Our first book report will be due the last week of November on Monday November 23rd. Students have a choice on how they want to show their book – click here for the book report instructions. We will go over this in class and have several reminders prior to the due date. This is “homework” – students are to complete this at home and can choose whichever book they have read and liked. The idea is to share our love of literature and for students to see what books their peers are enjoying and perhaps add it to their ‘next to read.’ Please email me if you have any questions.

This week Students will be completing part two of the Student Learning Assessment (on Thursday, Oct. 22). This is a digitally based provincial assessment that proved a beginning of the year “check in” for literacy and numeracy. It helps me, the teacher, identify student strengths and areas for growth at the start of the year. Please click here for more information.

For Halloween this year, unfortunately students cannot wear costumes. Students can dress in orange and black and paint their face if they choose on Thursday October 29th. We will have a celebration in the afternoon on this day with some Halloween themed Math and Art.

Friday, October 15

Please see below for a list of suggestions for clothing items to send as we move into colder and snowier days:

- warm/rainproof jacket

- snowpants

- gloves (the mornings are cold even when the afternoon is warm)

- toque

- scarf

- waterproof footwear (as well as indoor running shoes to keep at school)

- an extra pair of socks in the backpack

It is still recommended that an extra mask be sent to school each day. This is especially important now, because if a mask gets dropped outside, it is likely to get wet.

Library Requests: Here are instructions to sign out a library book with our E-library:

1.     Click on the book image on the right hand side of this page

2.     Once you click here, follow the steps. Step 1 has a link and you must log into e-library (if you don’t you are ordering a book from all of CBE not just our school – it won’t work). Log in with your CBE username and password.

3.     Search for books and fill in the book title and author. When making your request, include -Book information (Title, Author) and Student Information (First and last name, homeroom teacher, grade)

4.     Mrs. Lane will deliver books to our class once a week. If you do not return your book, you cannot take out another one until it is returned. You may take your books home or leave them at school.

School Pictures:

- Picture orders are due online Oct 22

Students are coming home with their login cards tomorrow (October 6th). This has all of their login information for your reference (email, CBE ID #, Gmail, password and Alberta Student Number). You can keep these at home as I have made another card for them to keep at school. On the back I have put their logins for RAZ kids and Prodigy if you would like to use these at home. Please let me know if you have any questions about either platform.

RAZ Kids – A great website for reading. I have set each student up with books that should be at their level (not too easy but not too hard). There are questions at the end to ensure students understand what they have read. Students can also record themselves reading which I am able to review. There is an option to have the book read to you first as well. Students earn points as they read books.

Prodigy – A Math website. Students have been loving this in class. The questions are adjusted based off if students get the correct answer so that they are sufficiently challenging. The material aligns really well with the Grade 3 Math curriculum.

When your child is reading at home, you can have them use some of these strategies. These will help engage as well as ensure they remember and learn from what they are reading.
