It seems that only yesterday I was writing my end of June message wishing everyone a happy summer. Today, I am writing to say welcome to the 2023-2024 school year! Classes began last Thursday and it was amazing to see the school filled with excited young faces who are eager to learn!
As always, the safety of our school community is of paramount concern. Small children and vehicles can be a bad mix – please be careful as you drive around the school and particularly in the angled parking on the north side of the school. Please do not use the staff parking lot for dropping off and picking up students unless you need to access the accessible parking.
September is always a busy month – the Terry Fox Run, Meet the Teacher and Orange Shirt Day are all highlights. Students get to know their teachers and the classroom routines for their new grade. Most of the staff are familiar but there are three new faces for this school year. Nazifa Hosaini will be teaching Grade 2 along with Kelly Moore. We also welcome back Lauren Clarke who is teaching grade six. Contact information for all staff members is being updated and can be accessed through the Riverbend School website.
For those who brought their children to school on Thursday, you may have noted that there is a new outdoor classroom located just to the south of the Learning Gardens. These permanent outdoor tables were purchased through the hard work and generosity of the Riverbend School Council. School Council meetings are open to all parents/guardians of the school community and all are welcome. The first meeting of the year will be held on Wednesday, 13 September 2023.Mingling begins at 6:15pm and the meeting itself begins at 6:30pm. All meetings are held in person at the school. Please join us!
I am looking forward to another busy and exciting school year! As partners in learning, we work together to provide a safe and caring place where all students can be successful – the very best each one of them can be!
