Grade 7-12 at home learning extended - in-person learning resumes May 17, 2021
Alberta Education has approved the CBE’s request to have students in Grades 7-12 continue to learn from home for an additional two weeks to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 on our schools. We are still seeing high numbers of daily COVID-19 cases in our community, and thousands of students and staff continue to isolate. In-person classes are now scheduled to [...]

Name Change and Next Steps

Dear Families,
Welcome to Riverside School!
Thank you for your ongoing support as we work through the news that the CBE Board of Trustees has changed the name of our school. This name is not a temporary name, and effective immediately, our school will be known as Riverside School. We will continue to offer the Science Alternative Program.
Though this change is effective immediately, the CBE will phase in implementation of the changes over the next several months to allow us to focus on learning during the remaining weeks of the school year.
Over the course of the next few months, you may still see the Langevin School name. This is not an oversight, we are working through a process to make the changes necessary and this will take time. We know that these changes will continue into the 2021-22 school year.
There is a tremendous amount of administrative work that will be required to support this change. This includes signage, the name in the technical systems that the CBE uses, like PowerSchool and School Messenger, and materials/processes consistent with the already established CBE guidelines.
It is important that students and the community are involved in building our identity as Riverside School. While we are committed to creating opportunities for input moving forward, student learning and stability are the priority right now. This work will be ongoing into the new school year.
In June, the Board of Trustees will consider a new policy to address re-naming of schools across the CBE. If you are interested, please watch the CBE website at www.cbe.ab.ca for information and updates.
We are excited about working together and are committed supporting our welcoming and inclusive school community, under our new name. I will keep you updated over time about the transition process.
Thank you,
Nancy L. Gillott
Principal | Riverside School
