Our Commitment to Truth and Reconciliation

We are very fortunate to be learning about the land and spend a great deal of time outdoors with our Inquiry Journals. In addition to the amazing work in classrooms, we had two really great projects on the go in the last school year!

  1. Last year students asked for support for a Social Justice Group (lunchtime club) who formed an idea and met with Admin to gain support for an Art Installation on the fence along 1st Avenue to tell the story of Riverside School. These15 students met weekly to brainstorm and plan their project, received Grant funding, hired an artist to work with and created a beautiful mural that was installed in June 2022, along 1st Avenue. See the Google Site detailing this project!
  2. Our grade 4 classes received a $1000 Grant from Environmental Student Action Challenge for a project that had them researching Indigenous plants and stories to design and develop an Indigenous Garden in our Naturalization Area. The name of the Project is in Blackfoot: Issuihtaa  iitáí’nssimao’p (Riverside Garden)
