If your child will be absent or late, please email us: Riverside@cbe.ab.ca
To help us keep accurate attendance, we ask that absences and lates be reported by emailing our External Mailbox indicating the name of the student, the teacher's name, and the reason.
Late Arrivals – All students must check in at the office for a late slip before entering class.
Early Departures – All students must be signed out from the office before leaving school before dismissal time.
Extended Absences – Any extended absence must be reported to the main office.
Lateness & Absenteeism
Lateness and absenteeism are related to the student behaviour and academic expectations in our Code of Conduct. Students must comply with the School Act. Two of the five elements pertain to lateness and absenteeism, specifically: “Being diligent in pursuing their studies” and “Attending school regularly and punctually.” In short, attending school regularly and on-time is the law and can significantly impact learning and social growth.
Riverside School takes attendance seriously and we have implemented the following measures:
- If absenteeism or chronic late arrivals become an issue, parents will be contacted by classroom teacher to explore any issues or concerns
- If absenteeism or chronic late arrival persists, an Attendance Improvement Plan will be initiated by the classroom teacher and school administration
- If this does not rectify the issue, a meeting with the school’s administration will be held
- If these measures don’t improve the situation, a hearing with the attendance board will be arranged
