Our School Name
The Board of Trustees of the Calgary Board of Education has named the new northwest high school after astronaut—and former CBE student—Robert Thirsk. Robert Thirsk was selected for the Canadian Astronaut Program in 1983 and has flown on two space missions as a member of the Canadian Space Agency. In addition he served as crew commander of two space mission simulations, and he was the first Canadian astronaut to complete a long duration expedition aboard the International Space Station. He is currently vice president of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. Throughout his career, he has been a pioneer and a role model to Canadians of all ages by encouraging them to follow their dreams, and instilling in them the importance of scientific research. Dr. Thirsk holds three concepts "close to his heart - exploration, innovation and education". These themes will inspire our work at our new high school.
