| Dear Robert Warren Families, Thank you to our many families who attended our Meet the Teacher evening this past week, and shared their appreciation for the information presented. It was a pleasure to talk with you. We had a beautiful day to be outside on Friday, September 15 for our Terry Fox activities! During homeroom, students created and rehearsed a cheer. Students also created banners that they held up during their homeroom cheer. Students also watched a Terry Fox video together in the gym. After making our way outside, each homeroom participated in a tug of war, being encouraged by the cheering voices of all other students. This was followed by our Terry Fox run. The excitement of students and staff was palpable. This week, we honour our Truth and Reconciliation commitments with daily activities during our Social Studies classes. These activities will culminate on Thursday, with Orange Shirt Day, and an opportunity for each student to place a personalized message on the sidewalk in front of our school, using sidewalk chalk. A reminder that our next School Council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, October 10 at 7:00 pm. During the week of the 23-27 of October, we will Celebrate the National Hispanic Heritage Month with our own “Semana Cultural del Español”. We will have award winning Latin Dance Instructors, food vendors, and other exciting cultural activities planned for our students. The language and the culture will be palpable during this week. “Durante la semana del 23 al 27 de octubre, celebraremos el Mes Nacional de la Herencia Hispana con nuestra propia “Semana Cultural del Español”. Tendremos galardonados instructores de baile latino, vendedores de comida y otras emocionantes actividades culturales planificadas para nuestros estudiantes. El idioma y la cultura serán palpables durante esta semana.” As we move further into the school year, we are increasing our understanding of students’ progress and learning needs. Teachers are collecting learning artifacts that will help them assess progress in the various subject areas. They will communicate your child’s progress to you at our November Student Progress Conferences, and in the first report card which you will be able to access at the end of January. Assessment and reporting to parents are ongoing processes. If you feel that you need to discuss your child’s progress with their teacher, please reach out to them. Sincere regards, Colin Haydu

| It is my hope that as we bring this school year to a close, we will all be able to step back and, with time, see the many positive outcomes and opportunities that we can build upon going forward to forge an even stronger school community.
During this last year, I have observed many positives in the midst of these very challenging times. I have watched exceptionally strong teachers become even stronger, in support of their students. I have seen students become even more disciplined and diligent in approaching their academic work, and in advocating for themselves. Our students have shown tremendous resiliency this year! It is my sincere hope that we can leverage these positive outcomes in a more traditional school environment next year. Thank you, parents, for your tremendous support of our work with your children over the course of this year. You supported your children in completing tasks and encouraging them to do their absolute best. I extend to all our students, parents, and staff, best wishes for a most restful and rejuvenating summer. Sincerely, Colin Haydu

| Dear Robert Warren Families, Please join me in welcoming Alejandra Fleischer as Assistant Principal here at Robert Warren School. Alejandra will begin at Robert Warren School on Monday, March 1. Please see Alejandra’s letter of introduction to our community below. Sincere regards, Sr. Haydu Dear Robert Warren Community
It is with great excitement that I write this letter of introduction to you as the new Assistant Principal of Robert Warren School. I am originally from Venezuela, and moved to Calgary 25 years ago. I am a mother of two teenage girls whose love, energy, and resilience keep me hopeful for a bright future during these challenging times. I joined the Spanish Bilingual Program 13 years ago at Senator Patrick Burns School, where I grew as a teacher and experienced the middle school philosophy. I engaged in many activities to foment a strong desire for academic success, and to inspire students’ appreciation for the language and cultures and of the Hispanic world. Later, in my role as Language Specialist, I had the opportunity to review research-based strategies and design professional development sessions to build capacity in language pedagogies across the CBE Bilingual schools. This was a wonderful experience that allowed me to meet many of the teachers who are now at Robert Warren School in a team I am thrilled to join! During the last three years I worked as the Assistant Principal of the delightful learning community of W.O. Mitchell School. My experience there was rich in many aspects that I trust will support my transition to Robert Warren School. I am looking forward to connecting with the staff and to meeting students, parents and guardians in order to, as a team, engage in conversations supporting the success of our students. With warm and kind regards, Alejandra Fleischer

| Dear Robert Warren Families,
As we prepare for the holidays, I wish to share with you that the greatest gift I've received during this last year is the honour to serve as Principal here at Robert Warren School. This is a reminder that January 4 is a non-instructional day. From January 5 - 8,
all students will be learning from home. I've attached a
PDF file for the convenience of any families that may wish to request the use of a Chromebooks computer for your child while learning from home in an on-line capacity. Please complete pertinent sections of this form, and send it back to us by e-mail. We'll complete the fields specific to the computer you'll receive, and then arrange a convenient pick-up time. For our Hub families, this is a reminder of the opportunity to return to in-person instruction here at Robert Warren beginning Monday, February 1. For those who wish to return to in-person instruction, it's important that you inform us by noon on Friday, January 8 by completing the notice of intent in your MyCBE / PowerSchool account. I wish you and your family a happy and healthy 2021! Warmest regards, Sr. Haydu

| Hola Familias de Robert Warren, As we prepare to turn our calendars to October next week, I'm reaching out to share information that I hope is both pertinent and timely. Our virtual Meet the Teacher last night saw 83 families on-line. Each of our teachers introduced themselves, and shared their respective communication platforms. We were so appreciative of the questions that parents asked, and are grateful to have had the opportunity to respond to both questions and concerns. For our HUB families, you will be hearing from the teachers of your children in the days to come. The format for your Meet the Teacher will mirror the format used last night. I would like to encourage our HUB students to begin capturing pictures of their learning from home. It's my hope that many of these pictures will be part of our yearbook, celebrating all students. More information will be forthcoming specific to sharing these pictures with us here at the school. On Tuesday, October 27, I invite all students learning through the HUB to come to Robert Warren to have their pictures taken between 9:00 am & 10:00 am. You can expect to receive detailed information via School Messenger. We are grateful to be part of the Canyon Meadows community. Knowing that many families having siblings in both Eugene Coste School and Canyon Meadows school, I want to ensure you that we are working directly with the CBE central supports in following all necessary health measures. We will continue to take precautionary measures to ensure the safety of all students and staff, and we will continue to provide additional information to parents/guardians, as it is available. Sincere regards, Sr. Haydu

| Dear Robert Warren Families,
We've had a very smooth school start-up, and I wish to thank our students for the kindness, care, and respect that they've demonstrated. Our first virtual School Council meeting of the year was held this week on September 15, and we had a significant number of our parents involved in the meeting. As Principal, it's important to me that decisions and implementation strategies are based on a vision shared by our school community, and an understanding of our bilingual culture. Starting the week of September 21 , I'll begin to have conversations with each of our classes about the Principal's Advisory Council, and the importance of student voice at Robert Warren School. Sincere regards, Sr. Haydu

| Dear Robert Warren Families, I trust that you are all well, and as hopeful as I am to be resuming classes again. We were thrilled to welcome students back to school this week! Although some Robert Warren families have elected to participate in hub learning for September – and will not be participating in face-to-face classes at this time - you are all still part of our community, and will continue to receive ongoing communication from the school. Thank you for preparing your child(ren) to return to school. Students have been very respectful of others' space, and we have observed a sense of calm over lunchtime with smaller groups of students eating at different times. We hope that students come home each day with stories of their learning, and with a sense of joy. I wish to thank you for your continued support, which has been keenly experienced through your emails, calls, and well wishes since the cancellation of face-to-face classes were first announced in March. We are an extraordinary school community, and I know we will get through the next steps smoothly.
Sincere regards,
Sr. Haydu, on behalf of Robert Warren Staff
