Week of Mar 30 - Apr 3

Hola alumnos,

I hope you're doing well despite the difficult preventative measure in place these days :)

In terms of Math 9, we are actively making changes to the D2L shell in order to improve the course and make it more educational and user-friendly.

For this week, please familiarize yourself with the D2L shell, and look at Unit 6: Linear Equations and Inequalities. You'll find that concepts are in English and very well explained. Take the time to read lessons 6.1 and 6.2. Next, there is Math Action 6.1 and 6.2, where there are assigned readings from Math Makes Sense 9 and practice exercises from the same.

Please plan to complete some of all of the assigned practice exercises of 6.1 and 6.2. You can check your answers at the back of the book. This practice will prepare you for a D2L-based quiz on solving equations, offered later this week. Our course format will likely consist of that; lessons to read, practice exercises to do along with answer keys for checking, and D2L quizzes to assess knowledge. Videos from Khan Academy will still be available on the D2L shell and we may upload videos later.

You will have to register, but eventually will have free 60-day access to Math Makes Sense 9. Thanks to those at Pearson Canada for this generous offer.

Don't hesitate to email me if you need extra help. We can likely communicate using Google Hangouts. Stay tuned for that.

Be well,

Message from March 16th:

Dear parents and guardians,

We are living in unprecedented times, and as such, we will take measures to continue to communicate with you until we have further information. Please see my teacher blog on the Robert Warren School home page for the most recent information.

This week, Math 9 students should look at sections 6.1 and 6.2 in the Math Makes Sense 9 textbook. Please note that this book's PDF is easily searchable and available online. Alternatively, students can access tutorials and practice in their D2L shell. In D2L, click on "Content", "Unidad 7: Resolver Relaciones Lineales", "Resolver Ecuaciones: ax=b, x/a=b, a/x=b", " Resolver Ecuaciones: ax+b=c, x/a+b=c". There, students will find video tutorials and practice worksheets. Answers are included in this section.

Please note that if students are not able to access technology, they can email me at gsdumelie@cbe.ab.ca to make further arrangements.

Week of March 16-20, 2020

𑁜Math 9. We closed the unit on Polynomials last week. In the Math Makes Sense 9 textbook, that is Unit 5. Since September, we have been covering the units in this book in order, with the only exception of unit 9.1, covered in December. Please continue with Unit 6 for now.

The Math Makes Sense 9 can be found online by searching for its PDF. Students also have Math 9 shells in D2L that are full of content and will be updated as the year progresses. Please note that the D2L shell’s timeline and resources are based on Math Links 9, a different textbook. Below, I am copying my list of Math-related bookmarks. Please explore each one and find more; there are many great math resources online now:
