My apologies for not updating this page in a couple of weeks. As you all know, we started to send out the Week at a Glance to parents/guardians weekly on Monday mornings. This documents provides a brief glance at the work students have for each subject, with complete details found in the corresponding D2L pages.

Week of April 13-17

I hope you had some time to enjoy this long weekend and connected with loved ones.

I wanted to remind you that Monday April 13 is a SYSTEM PD Day and I will participating in sessions all day. For this reason I will be unavailable to respond to emails until Tuesday morning.

SLA 71- This week we will continue to focus our attention on the reflexive verbs. Please complete the following. 

  1. Respond to weekly Discussion question
  2. View video Un dia en la vida de Jaime and complete comprehension questions
  3. Complete guiding questions in the template for Mi Rutina and write a description of your daily routines using the information you gathered in the template.
  4. 71 Google Meet Wed. @ 10 AM- This is an optional Q & A session

SLA 61- This week we will continue to focus on the Imperative verbs.

I have not received most of the conjugation table assignment from last week and I would like to give you feedback on this assignment to ensure you are on the right track for this week's work. Please complete this table first and submitted to the Assignment folder in D2L.

  1. Answer the weekly discussion question located in the DISCUSSION page in D2L
  2. Listening Comprehension activity: Watch the short video-Gazpacho

Week of April 6- 9

Hello everyone,

I trust you have received the grade team weekly update this morning. As a grade team, we will continue to work together to coordinate the amount of work assigned to avoid overwhelming students. 

As always, detailed instructions can be found on the Spanish D2L shells. I also would like to remind students that due dates are flexible as I am mindful of the complexities of learning at home. If you encounter questions, concerns or need an extension please send me an email.

SLA 71-This week we will continue with our virtual journal writing located in the Discussion page in D2L. Please respond to the weekly question.

We will also begin to learn about reflexive verbs. Please review the PowerPoint located in the content page in D2L. Afterwards complete the practice conjugation table and submit it to the ASSIGNMENT page within D2L. DUE DATE: Friday April, 10.

Last week I received some outstanding assignments and I encourage the rest to share your 2 assignments with me on Google Drive for the independent book project.

Week of Marc 30-April 3

It was nice getting to connect with many of you yesterday and hear your voices. If we did not get a chance to connect, I hope you had some time to relax during Spring Break and make some memories. I know that many of our plans were different than what we had anticipated, however I am hoping you made the best of it.

I know that our Brochure project was due this week and I understand that many of you may not have MICROSOFT PUBLISHER to create your project at home. If you do and wish to continue using this program, please do so. If you do not, you may create a Google DOC and share your information. Please include all the headings that the brochure needed as well as the images you had selected. A list of your references (the websites) used is also needed.

Today and tomorrow, please work on part two of the assignment which is the letter to the author. This is due by Mindnight tomorrow March 17th

I will be looking at your sketchbooks this week and assess the self-portraits using your practice sketches. Remember that this assignment focused on proportions not how realistic your portraits turned out.

Week of March 9-13 

61 SPANISH LANGUAGE ARTS 

This week students are using their research for their selected Hispanic city to write descriptive paragraphs about the various topics. The paragraphs will be used to create their brochures using Microsoft Publisher. The completed brochure is due March 17th.

71 SPANISH LANGUAGE ARTS 

This week students will use their notes collected while reading their self-selected Spanish book to create a book analysis presentation. The book analysis is due due March 12th.

Part 2 of this assignment, the letter to the author is due March 17th

ART 62

Students are working on their final copy of their self-portraits this week.

ART 8/9

Students are working on the planning stages on a multi-medium project that involves shading and painting. This week they are working on creating a shading value table to help them as they work on tracing a black and white picture and begin to shade it.

Week of March 2-6 

61 SPANISH LANGUAGE ARTS 

This week students will be practicing their inference skills as they start a research project about a Hispanic speaking city. This information collected will be used to create a travel brochure as well an oral presentation. The research component will last the rest of the week so students can begin to create a rough draft of their brochures next week. The brochure is due March 17th.

71 SPANISH LANGUAGE ARTS 

HOMEWORK: students are continuing to read their chosen Spanish book at home in preparation for their work periods for their book analysis next week.

This week we will be reviewing how to write a letter and students will practice writing a letter in preparation for part 2 of their project.

The book analysis is due due March 12th.

The letter to the author is due March 17th

ART 62

Students have embarked in their rough copy of their own-self portraits with the hopes of beginning their final draft at the start of next week.

ART 8/9

Students are continuing to work on their one-point perspective color wheel assignment. all students are done their planning and have started to work on their final product.The due date for this assignment is Wednesday, March  4th.

Week of Feb 24-28 

61 SPANISH LANGUAGE ARTS 

Last week student completed their poems using future tense verbs and started to focus on inference strategies while reading.  This week we are continuing to practice how to draw conclusion from text using three short stories. 

71 SPANISH LANGUAGE ARTS 

Last week students worked on finishing their scripts for their predictions for the future using future tense. This week, students are starting an independent novel study using a book of their choice. Students will complete a two part assignment that includes a powerpoint presentation for their retell as well as a letter to the author giving their opinion of the story using supporting details. These assignments are due March 12th.

ART 62

Last week and continuing this week, students have been learning how to draw self-portraits. This week they are focusing on how to refine the various facial features in order to achieve a realistic self-portrait. 

ART 8/9

Students are continuing to work on their one-point perspective color wheel assignment. all students are done their planning and have started to work on their final product.The tentative due date for this assignment is Wednesday, March  4th.

Week of February 3-12

61 SPANISH LANGUAGE ARTS 

This week and into next week, students are learning about the simple future verb rules and applying them in context via a poem they will writing and illustrating in class.

71 SPANISH LANGUAGE ARTS 

This week, students completed the written portion of their historical figure write up demonstrating their ability to conjugate verbs in the past tense. This was due Monday, February 3rd.

For the remainder of the week, students will be recording and uploading their oral presentation portion of the project to IRIS. Next, we will continue to review preterit and simple future verbs this week and into next.

ART 62

This week students are finishing their surrealism project as well as working on their oil pastel project.

ART 8/9

Students are learning about one-point perspective, hue, value and intensity. They will apply these concepts over the next few weeks working towards creating their own  illustrated color wheel.

This week students are presenting their book in a box project.


71 SPANISH LANGUAGE ARTS 

This week students applying their understanding of the preterit by researching a historical character and writing a mini-biography. This project incorporates a reading comprehension, written and oral component. This project is due Monday, February 3rd.

ART 62

This week students continue their surrealism project. Student are in the initial phase of their painting and have selected their two types of paints they will incorporate in their landscape.

Weeks of January 13-24

Homeroom. Field trip forms went home yesterday. Please returned the signed forms as well as payment (cash or cheque) to homeroom by Monday, January 20.


61 SPANISH LANGUAGE ARTS 

Students continue their a book in a box. At this point all students have read their chosen book and are working on the write up for the assignment. This includes selecting 8 objects/images to represent the various the  various story elements as well as their recommendation. They will continue to work on this as well as their box during the next week with the project due  27th.

Just a reminder for students to bring a shoe box or a box /container to use for their project by Monday January 20th.


71 SPANISH LANGUAGE ARTS 

This week students are presenting  ideal school presentation to the class. The written component for this assignment was due January 13th. If students have not shared this portion, please do so as soon as possible.

Next week we will focus on reviewing the preterit verb with a quiz tentatively scheduled for Friday, January 24th.

ART 62

This week students are embarking on a new project that will incorporate surrealism. They are currently in the planning and exploration stage, and this will carry over into next week.

61 SPANISH LANGUAGE ARTS 

Students are embarking on a new project called a book in a box where they will be selecting a Spanish picture book or short novel to read. The purpose is to understand what they read and be able to present the principal ideas of the book to the class as well as justify their opinion of the book. This project has a due date of January 27th.

71 SPANISH LANGUAGE ARTS 

This week students will be working on a short writing piece describing their ideal school and justifying their choices. This is a two fold assignment with a short written component as well as an oral presentation. Both components of this assignment are due on Monday, January 13th.

This week students are embarking on transferring their knowledge of positive and negative space to create relief prints using ink.

Students are completing peer feedback and will be working on their last edits prior to submitting their final copy on Wednesday, December 18.

71 SPANISH LANGUAGE ARTS 

This week students are engaging in peer feedback as they work on editing their first draft pf their story. Our goal is to have the stories completed before the winter break.

This week students are working on positive and negative space through their Zentangle initials.

Last week students completed their rough draft of their legends and had an opportunity to engage in the editing process with the teacher. This week students will complete their second draft and another round of editing with a peer prior to publishing their work.

71 SPANISH LANGUAGE ARTS 

Last week students presented their idioms to their peers and started to plan out their backwards story. This week, our goal is to complete the first draft and editing of their work.

Last week students planned and created their 3D cardboard projects. This week students will be completing this project and reflecting on their learning.

61 SPANISH LANGUAGE ARTS 

We continue to explore legends with this week students comparing the two legends they have read to identify the elements required. This week students will also begin to identify possible themes for their own legend and continue to work on mastering the preterit.

71 SPANISH LANGUAGE ARTS 

Los Zorros del Norte- Students will be working on their final project this week. The 8 panel comic is due Monday, November 25th.

ART 6 

Students will begin to build a 3D napkin holder and afterwards design their Hispanic influenced scenery.

61 SPANISH LANGUAGE ARTS 

This week we are starting our legends unit that will help students focus on learning how to use the preterit in context. We started by learning the preterit verb conjugation rules and practicing how to change verbs to the past tense.

We also are focusing on reading our first legend to begin to analyze how legends differ from stories.

During this unit students will be creating their very own legends.

71 SPANISH LANGUAGE ARTS 

Los Zorros del Norte- This week students will continue to focus on reading Chapters 30-35 of their novel study. They will also start their final project for this novel which will include the creation of a comic.

ART 6 

Students care starting their final copy of their self portraits. This project will be due this Thursday, November 14th.

Oral presentations for the student autobiographies have started today and will continue through until Wednesday. Students will work on reading comprehension questions the remainder of the week.

71 SPANISH LANGUAGE ARTS 

Los Zorros del Norte- This week students will continue to focus on reading Chapters 15-16  of their novel study. 

Students have also begun to present their oral presentations based on a fictional exchange program to demonstrate their abilities to talk about a know topic. 

ART 6 

Students started the process of learning a step-by-step technique for drawing self-portraits. This week will be the exploration phase of the process, where students will learn the technique before attempting to draw a rough sketch of their own faces.

Week of Oct 5-18

61 SPANISH LANGUAGE ARTS 

Students are publishing their autobiography this week. Next, they will be working on a 3-5 minutes oral presentation based on their autobiography. We will start presentations On Monday October 21.

71 SPANISH LANGUAGE ARTS 

Los Zorros del Norte- This week students will continue to focus on Chapters 11-14 of their novel study. Students will also be working on a short oral presentation this week and will have an opportunity to present on Monday, Oct 21.

ART 6 

Students are at various stages of painting their landscapes. This week students will focus on their reflections of the project. Up next, we will be working on creating some poppies in preparation for  Remembrance Day.

Week of Oct 7-11

I would like to apologize for not posting the week of Sept 30-Oct 4th. This week's post contains a summary of what happened in class this past week alongside this week's information.


71 Homeroom- A reminder that picture orders are due Monday October 7th. Pictures can be ordered online or using the paper form provided by the photographer. If you chose option 2, all forms along payment must be returned to school by Oct 7th.

61 SPANISH LANGUAGE ARTS 

Students continues to work on completing their rough draft of their autobiography. This week our aim is to have the autobiographies complete and ready to publish. Students will be engaging in the editing cycle using a project checklist, followed by peer and teacher feedback.

71 SPANISH LANGUAGE ARTS 

This past week students read Chapters 5-8 of their novel study Los Zorros del Norte. They answered comprehension questions and have started a short vocabulary task that will carry on into the week of October 7th. This upcoming week will also have students reading chapters 9-12.

ART 6 

All students have now completed their name plate projects and marks have been updated in PowerSchool.

This past week students were planning their upcoming Landscape project as well as experimenting with the various types of paints in preparation for the project. This week, students will start to work on their paintings.

-Toonies for Terry-This is our final Tuesday Toonie in support of the Terry Fox Foundation. 

61 SPANISH LANGUAGE ARTS 

This week students continue to write their rough copy of their autobiography. They will have an opportunity to begin to peer edit towards the end of the week.

71 SPANISH LANGUAGE ARTS 

Las week we started reading our first novel study called Los zorros del norte. Students are using the annotation readings strategy as they read this short novel. This week we are focusing on chapters 3-6.

ART 6 

Students in 6-3 will begin a new project that will have them explore acrylic and water color paints to create a landscape painting.
