Regular Program at the CBE

Even though most of our schools offer a regular program, no two are quite the same. All schools teach according to Alberta Education’s mandated curriculum, however a school’s focus, optional courses and school activities are as unique as every school.

Program, Focus & Approach

International Spanish Academy

¿Quiénes somos? Our school is an International Spanish Academy! The International Spanish Academy program is an educational initiative of the Ministry of Education of Spain that complements the Calgary Board of Education's vibrant Spanish Bilingual Program by connecting schools from across Alberta and the United States. It provides students with opportunities to acquire and maintain language skills in Spanish and English and develop global citizenship through rich intercultural encounters.

Spanish & English Instruction

At Robert Warren School, Spanish and English are heard throughout our hallways and the classrooms. Students receive 35 percent of their instruction in Spanish, reaping the benefits of working with some culturally diverse staff from around the world. In addition, our students engage in authentic learning experiences while celebrating Spanish culture through student led events.

The staff at Robert Warren is committed to ensure all students have access to a quality education. We use an interdisciplinary approach to learning, where students and teachers explore answers to their questions and delve into topics that sponsor critical thinking. We believe in a strong literacy and numeracy program as the foundation for life-long learning.

We believe in strong relationships and following a Middle School approach to our organization. Our school provides a supportive environment by encouraging teamwork and collaboration of all staff members. Classes of students work together on a regular basis, and we also allow for flexible groupings based on student learning needs during Warrior or Flex Time each Wednesday and Thursday.

Homework

  • Parents may also access Bookflix through www.learnalberta.ca using username: LA06 and password: 4105. Bookflix is an online English / Spanish resource.

Robert Warren students are expected to complete all assignments. The more effectively class time is used, the less homework students will have. Most students should expect to be doing about one to one hour each day on assignments or study/review.  Parents are encouraged to examine notes, assignments and D2L on a regular basis, and support students to complete homework. A consistent homework routine is important – right after school or right after supper is usually best. Please be sure to contact teachers for clarification if necessary.

Computer Labs

Robert Warren has emphasized integration of information technology within the core subjects and options offered at the school. A supervised computer lab is open at lunch so students may work on projects or homework assignments. All students using computers at the school are bound by the Acceptable Use Policy.

Middle Years at the CBE

Middle years learning refers to education offered to students between the ages of 10-15. These years are critical in keeping our students on the path to high school completion and their career futures. Keys for student success include: participating in hands-on, purposeful and relevant learning; creating positive relationships with peers, teachers and other adults; and being actively involved in the community and feeling supported by family, businesses and other organizations that surround them.

Learn more about our students in their middle years, including how their learning will change and how you can support your child, visit the CBE website.

Exploring Career Choices

For Grades 5 to 9 at the CBE, we offer Career & Technology Foundations (CTF). This is an inquiry-based, hands-on program that focuses on essential skills common to occupational areas, and our students personalize their learning based on their interests and passions.
