Principal's Message
We are so fortunate at Ron Southern to have such a wonderful community. The year continued to have some challenges due to COVID but we all persevered and got through it. In the spring, it was great to see our students going on field trips and being able to have school assemblies again. The family food truck night was such a highlight of the school year. It was so nice to have our families and staff together! Thank you to our all our staff who ensure that Ron Southern is a safe and caring place to be. What would we ever do without Ms. Plewis and Ms. Rebecca in the front office graciously steering the ship. Mr. Peter and his team help keep our school well maintained and incredibly clean. Thank you to Ms. Dorothy and our wonderful Educational Assistants and lunchroom team that do amazing work with our students every day. Thank you to our teachers that continually lift up the curriculum and ensure that the students have quality learning experiences. As a result, we saw significant growth for each of our students, both socially and academically. I had the opportunity to witness amazing learning in classrooms. From the gains made by our EES students related to their learning and interactions within the school community and creating beautiful Acknowledgments of the Lands, to our early learners who have further developed in the areas of pre-literacy and early numeracy with eagerness to explore the world, to our Grade 1’s who are now reading and writing and really know how to stretch out their words. Our grade 2 / 3 students explored the sciences in an authentic manner and even had ducks, butterflies and a giant gorilla(thank heavens it was paper) in their classroom. Our grade 4’s created an inclusive and supportive community within their classrooms, focusing on environmental stewardship and citizenship. As a result, we have a beautiful book in our library written by our own students. Lastly, thank you to our oldest students, the leaders of our school, who engaged in project-based learning with enthusiasm, creativity, individuality, and critical thinking skills. Lastly, a special shout out to our School Council for all that they do. They are an amazing team and really have a “can do” attitude. We all value the support you give to the school.
I want to extend a special farewell to our grade 6s, we will miss them dearly. To any of our other students who are moving from our community for next school year, thank you for your positive contributions to life at Ron Southern. Have a wonderful summer and we are excited to see what the next school year brings.
