Principal's Message

2021-2022 School Year Updates

Our first term has been a very rewarding and exciting time at Saddle Ridge School. We were very pleased to welcome back all of our last year's in-person students and returning Hub online learning students alongside, many new students and families to our school. Our staff is working hard to create a very Welcoming, Caring, Safe, and Inclusive learning environment to ensure all students feel connected and are successful in their learning.
School Development Plan (SDP) and Professional Learning
During the months of September and October, our teachers spent time looking at our school learning data, ensuring that our three-year School Development Plan is focused on supporting our three goals: Well-being, Literacy, and Mathematics. All staff members are working with students to increase a sense of belonging and connection with each other and the school through the development of Welcoming, Caring, and Safe learning environments.  Teachers continue to focus on improving writing in Literacy and procedural fluency in Mathematics.
Our three-year School Development Plan (outlining our goals, strategies, and actions), School Improvement Results Report (explaining progress towards our SDP goals during the 2020-2021 school year), and Report to Parents on Fees 2020-2021 are posted own our school website.
Conferences and Report Cards
We want to thank all parents/guardians who attended our recent Student Learning Conferences on November 25 and 26, 2021.  We are very proud of our student's and staff's commitment to learning.  We appreciate your continued support of your child's learning at our school. Your partnership with the school is invaluable in advancing student learning!  We would like to take this opportunity to let you know that you may contact us at any time if you would like to discuss your child's progress.
During the month of January, teachers will finish gathering assessment data to write report cards. Report cards will be available for you to view in myCBE/PowerSchool at the beginning of February. Please note that there will not be a printed report card sent home with your child.
School Organization and Additional Funding
This school year, we have organized our school with 5 - Kindergarten classes, 4 - Grade One classes, 5 - Grade Two classes, 4 - Grade Three classes, and 5 - Grade Four classes. In addition to our classroom-based teachers, we have both a Music Specialist and Physical Education Specialist, four Learning Leaders, and both School Assistants and Educational Assistants providing support to our students.
Over the last few weeks, our school has received some additional funding from Alberta Education for students in Grades 2 and 3, for additional support in reading and mathematics. All Grade 2 and 3 students were assessed in September to help inform where support is most needed. We will be assessing all Grade 1 students to assist in determining who else will benefit from this support.
Student Leadership
We are excited to have many of our Grade 4 students being student leaders in the school. These students have been developing many leadership initiatives this fall and will continue this work throughout the year. We are very proud of the initiative they are taking and the student voice they contribute to our school community.
School Council and School Society
Parents and community members are important partners in public education. Through school councils, our partners can make significant and meaningful contributions to the learning opportunities provided to CBE students. – CBE The Role of School Council
We were very pleased to see many parents attend our virtual School Council meetings in October and November, where we were able to share our School Development Plan, 2021-2022 Organization, and other important school information.
The Saddle Ridge School Society also met in October and November. The Saddle Ridge School Society continually raises funds for school projects and activities to enhance programming for our students. Our School Society has enhanced our school playground with the addition of park benches, purchased books for our Learning Commons, and supported guest experts in the school.
Our next School Council and Society meetings are on Monday, January 24, 2022, at 1:30 p.m. We would like to invite all interested parents to attend. More information will be sent out closer to the meeting date.
We have had an excellent first term of the 2021-2022 school year and look forward to continuing to develop the Learning and Well-being of all of our students.
