Security

We take safety and security seriously. It is important that we maintain a safe and caring community so that learning can take place.

Visitors & Volunteers

Our school is a closed campus. All visitors and volunteers must report directly to the main office to sign-in and request permission from the school administration to be in the school. This process helps us know where you are in case of an emergency and allows staff and students to know you have signed-in with the office staff by wearing your volunteer/visitor badge. To ensure school security, all exterior doors are locked after school commences each day. Anyone who is not a student or school staff member is required to sign in.

Arrival & Departure

Students may enter the school by the doors for their grade group after 8:45 am. If students arrive to school earlier they must wait outside until the student entrance doors are unlocked. After 9:00 am, entry is via the main doors by the office. In cases of illness during the school day, students may not go home until a parent/guardian is contacted to give permission and then students must sign out in the office. All students must report to the office when arriving late or leaving early.

To ensure student security, all parents are requested to sign students out at the office if they are leaving during regular school hours. We will call the classroom for your son or daughter to come and meet you at the office. If your son or daughter is returning to school after an appointment, they must check in at the front office.

Supervision & Breaks

Supervision is provided in the morning starting at 8:45 am, during the health break, and at lunch. Lunchroom staff provides supervision for those students in Grades 5 & 6 who access noon supervision service. Supervisors are also in place for those students in Grades 7-9 who remain in school during the lunch hour.

All students are required to exit the building after school unless participating in a school sponsored activity, sport, club, etc. Students should discuss expectations for dismissal times with their families as the school does not provide supervision after 3:45 pm.

Student Searches

In the event that school safety and security is a concern administration has the right to complete searches of student lockers, student property or personal belongings at any time.

Lockdowns

All CBE schools are required to practice lockdowns in the same way that we practice fire drills. The procedures for lockdowns are developed with the Calgary Police Service and are part of each school’s Emergency Response Plan. If you have questions about lockdown drills or lockdown procedures, please contact your principal.

Evacuation Procedures

In the event that the school needs to be evacuated for any reason, all staff have been trained according to CBE standards. All schools have a primary and a secondary evacuation site. In the event of an evacuation, you will receive an email, phone or SMS notification from the school.
