One of the most important ways parents/guardians and community members can make a meaningful difference for students is by participating on the school council. Under the Education Act, a school council is a collective association designed to advise the principal and the CBE Board of Trustees on matters related to the school. School councils have legislated advisory. They are different from Parent Societies & Associations, whose main function is to raise funds for the school. You can find more details in the CBE School Council Handbook.

SCHOOL COUNCIL NEWS!

Welcome back for the 2023-2024 school year! We are so excited to embark on a new school year together and look forward to meeting new families, as well as reconnecting with those already established in Scenic Acres! It has been an exciting start with the schools first year as a K-5 school, several new registrations over the summer and the addition of several new teachers and staff. Welcome to this fantastic community everyone!

Scenic Acres School Council consists of an elected team of volunteer parents, whose mission is to foster the well-being and effectiveness of our school community and to enhance student learning.  Council’s elected committee members support various functions within our school community, such as the organization and hosting of special events, fundraising activities, volunteer opportunities and fun lunch and fun snack days through our partnership with the Healthy Hunger program.  Council works closely with our Principal, Mr. Bill Garner and Learning Leaders Ms. Jill Lockerbie and Ms. Lisa Stewart throughout the year to support the school's strategic plan.   Funds received through councils fundraising efforts (received from both general fundraising and the AGLC’s Volunteer Casino event), are used to provide all students of Scenic Acres School with curriculum enhancement opportunities (Artists in Residence, in school Theatrical performances and Physical Education specialists ie. Soccer, Lacrosse, Dance, Yoga), Literacy, Math and Science Resources, off-site field trips and Technology.

MEETING DATES/SCHEDULE:

Our first council meeting will be held IN-PERSON at the school on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 from 6:30pm-8:00pm.

All parents and guardians are invited to attend; you do not need to hold a Council position to attend.  As a parent/guardian of a student attending the School, you have a vote on all matters considered by Council.  Council meetings are a wonderful way to get to know other parents and the teachers and staff at the school. Council meetings will continue to be offered both virtually on Microsoft Teams and in person at the school throughout the school year.  All meetings are held from 6:30-8:00pm.  Meeting invites for the virtual meetings will be sent out to parents through school messenger by Mr. Garner.  We would love to see you there!  Please make note of the following council meeting dates (no meeting in December, February or June) for the upcoming school year:

September 13,2023 (in person)
