“The capacity to learn is a gift; the ability to learn is a skill; the willingness to learn is a choice.” – Brian Herbert
Dear Archer Families,
As we begin Semester 2, I congratulate you on successfully completing your first semester!
New families, you've now experienced how quickly a semester goes by and might be thinking about how to manage time! I appreciate that we all take time to relax, but I also encourage you to build strength in academic learning. As you're looking over report cards next week and thinking about where you want to see your child progress next, try to consider what is in your control and take control.
Today is officially Family Literacy Day and an excellent day to think about your home environment and community resources that could contribute to your student's success. Talking about homework assignments and projects, spending time reading together, cleaning out backpacks and binders, and generally promoting active learning by reading recipes, making shopping lists and researching shared interests all contribute to student success.
Things to consider: Have you set up a distraction-free learning space, and are you doing homework with your child for a set amount of time each night? Have you connected with your child's teacher or the resource team at school, picked up a free library card from the public library or reached out to the Youth Center of Calgary Ogden or another enriching activity group to see how they can support learning? There are all kinds of connections to be made with arts and athletics that stimulate learning and build stamina within the school and the community.
When students and adults work together to create a supportive learning community, we drastically improve the quality of life and well-being of students, families and staff.
We are so happy that we can be together in person this year and continue our work to support our Sherwood students. There is a huge power in our coming together and being in person to learn. We are truly grateful for the connections we have made with our families this school year, and we look forward to what the next semester will bring for us all.
