Traffic Safety

Ensuring our students get to school safely is everyone’s responsibility. Please be mindful of crosswalks, parking rules and speed limits when you are near our schools, especially during the morning drop-off and afternoon dismissal times.

Parking & Drop-Off

For the safety and the overall reduction of congestion, the staff parking lot is not to be used for dropping off or picking up students. The ramp/staff parking lot is for busses and daycare vans only. Parents should park on the street or utilize safety drop-off/pick up children at the front of the school. All visitors to the school must park on the street or at the hockey rink, next to the school.

Please do not park close to the cross walk areas. It makes it very unsafe for the students and community members. As well, parking in the private housing complex across the school is prohibited and fines will be enforced.

Simons Valley School Safety Patrols

A very dedicated group of leadership students in Grade 6 have committed to training and practicing with our school constable and their teachers to become AMA School Safety Patrollers. Patrollers must meet a rigorous set of expectations and are evaluated regularly by supervisors, the AMA School Safety Patrol Coordinators and our school Constable.

Patrollers are responsible for:

  • Ensuring safe crossing for fellow students
  • Setting a good example at all times
  • Helping to record information to identify vehicles compromising safety at the crossings
  • Reporting any concerns and/or incidents to the Teacher/Supervisor

Patrols will run mornings from 8:55 AM to 9:10 AM and afternoons from 3:45 PM to 4:00 PM Monday to Thursday and 8:55 AM to 9:10 AM and afternoons 1:10 PM to 1:20 PM on early dismissal Fridays.

Patrols will run regardless of the weather except in cases of extreme cold or dangerous weather conditions.

Please remember that the cones set out are strategically placed to identify the crossings and no parking areas. Parking your vehicle too close to these cones severely impedes the sightlines of patrollers.

We are grateful for the patience of all members of our school community and the countless words of encouragement and praise our patrollers receive. Please assist us in creating a safe traffic area for patrollers and students each and every day by following the safety rules of the road.
