Principal's Message

June 13

We hope you are enjoying the green and blooming of flowers that have arrived from all the rain this past week and are looking forward to the warmth that has been forecasted for the week ahead. For many students, the countdown to the end of the year has begun with the promise of good weather.June is Indigenous History MonthAward winning author, speaker and consultant, Monique Gray Smith, released a video that may be useful for parents or guardians when taking up the discussion of residential schools. Monique has suggestions for the tender conversations in addition to strategies and lists of authors to read and/or listen to.Monique notes “the strategies are not totally in-depth, but will guide steps forward. Sometimes the journey is not for us as Indigenous people to provide the light for all the paths, but to support the journey and guide people to light their own ways”. Calgary Public LibraryIndigenous Storytime - OnlineThis fun and interactive Indigenous Family Storytime is available for all ages. You will read stories by Indigenous authors and  learn some rhymes and words. When: Friday June 25th 10:30 – 11:00 am (space is limited). Indigenous People refer to this as Summer Solstice. Did you know that June is the month when we accumulate the most rain? This is also when the new moon arrives. It is a time of year that we look forward to green grass and abundant growth of our plant and new young animal relatives.Celebrate with the Summer Solstice Festival where you will find a virtual POW WOW where drummers and dancers compete for prize money. Round one is from June 14-17th 2:00 10:00 am – 6:00 pm MST on the Social Distance Powwow Facebook group.  You can also try culinary workshops, creation (craft) workshops and an Indigenous marketplace Flourishing LifeGuiding Principles of a Strengths-Based Approach:All students are trying to do the best they can with what they have learned and experienced to date. All students want to be successful, explore the world around them and contribute in positive ways.Upcoming important datesJune is National Indigenous History Month and June 21 is National Indigenous People’s DayJune 22, 23, 24, 25 and 28 are all noon dismissal days.  June 28 is the last day of school for students. COMMUNITY RESOURCES"How good are you at problem solving?
