Dear Mustang Families:
We look forward to welcoming over 730 students back for the 2023-24 school year on August 31. As you create your summer plans, we hope you enjoy your family holidays as you create lifelong memories. A summer newsletter will be released on June 15th to provide essential start up information.
It is an honor and a privilege to be your principal at Sir John A. Macdonald School. Our school’s legacy is built on the phrase “Together We Make A Difference”. By working in partnership with our families, our staff seeks to help your children discover their core strengths, allowing them to be knowledgeable, confident, lifelong learners capable of enhancing their lives and the quality of our world.
We would like to welcome our new Grade 7 students who will find opportunities in both academic endeavors and extracurricular activities. Through risk taking, learners will become academically engaged in music, drama, visual arts, CTF (Career and Technology Foundations) and physical education, while learning essential literacy skills in Language Arts, Social Studies, Science and Mathematics. Our staff encourages you to explore new courses, Clubs and sporting opportunities.
Our Grade 8 learners should understand both the challenges and successes of academic achievement. This coming year will be the beginning of a new stage in learning and life. Make this a year of focus and commitment. May your resiliency continue to build as you recognize the learning that emerges when you persevere through challenges. Your growing maturity will allow you to embark on new learning opportunities.
Congratulations to our Grade 9 learners. During your grade 7 year, you ventured into new areas of learning, played a new sport or grew your creativity through fine art activities. You are an example to every other student, and you will inspire them to achieve. In your final year of Junior High, your academic commitment and success will pave the way for you to successfully tackle high school courses. Accept challenges and overcome obstacles, take on responsibility and fulfill it, see success and realize it.
Gratitude is extended to our Mustang families and staff who are committed to the success of every student. We strive towards creating a welcoming, caring, respectful and safe learning environment daily. When challenges inevitably arise, I am confident our staff will personally work with your children to create a resolution. Please do reach out over the next two months recognizing my response times may be delayed due to holiday plans: mahornby@cbe.ab.ca. Mr. Moe Rachid (A - K) and Mr. Lee Jensen (M - Z) work alongside me, as fellow Administrators, to ensure your children experience an oustanding year. "Together, we make a difference" alongside our families.
May you enjoy your time with loved ones over the summer break.
Michelle Hornby, Principal
