Security

We take safety and security seriously. It is important that we maintain a safe and caring community so that learning can take place.

To ensure the safety of our entire school community, our exterior doors are locked at all times, with the exception of our Main doors which will be unlocked 8:00 am - 8:15 am. To gain entry to the school, students and visitors are required to ring our school doorbell found at the Main entry (facing 4th St. NW) on the south wall.

Our school is also equipped with video surveillance cameras on both the interior and exterior of the school. Our principal and assistant principals are the only staff who have access to the cameras.

Student Arrival & Departure

Students will be supervised from 8:00 am – 3:30 pm. Students are not to arrive at school before 8:00 am unless they are under the direct supervision of a teacher. The main door will be locked until 8:00 am. Students are expected to leave the building within one half hour of dismissal unless under the direct supervision of a teacher.

Visitors & Volunteers

Our school is a closed campus. All visitors and volunteers must report directly to the main office to sign-in and request permission from the school administration to be in the school. This process helps us know where you are in case of an emergency and allows staff and students to know you have signed-in with the office staff by wearing your volunteer/visitor badge. Anyone who is not a student or school staff member is required to sign-in.

Student ID Required

As a student, you are required to have a student ID card. The ID card will be provided at the beginning of the year, usually in October. If an ID card is lost please go to the Learning Commons to get a replacement as soon as possible.

Student Searches

In the event that school safety and security is a concern administration has the right to complete searches of student lockers, student property or personal belongings at any time.

Lockdowns

All CBE schools are required to practice lockdowns in the same way that we practice fire drills. The procedures for lockdowns are developed with the Calgary Police Service and are part of each school’s Emergency Response Plan. If you have questions about lockdown drills or lockdown procedures, please contact your principal.

Evacuation Procedures

In the event that the school needs to be evacuated for any reason, all staff have been trained according to CBE standards. All schools have a primary and a secondary evacuation site. In the event of an evacuation, you will receive an email, phone or SMS notification from the school.
