Principal's Message

September 16, 2021

Good morning Sir Wilfrid Laurier parents:
Below you will see some important things to note:
September 23 – Terry Fox Run September 24 – Non-Instructional Day – No School for Students September 27 – Picture Day – Students Must be in Full Uniform September 29 – Grade 6 Immunizations September 30 –National Day for Truth and Reconciliation– No School Principal's Message Meet the Teacher:  Teachers have prepared video presentations to introduce themselves to you and provide a brief overview of the programs of study.  These will be posted on the school website on September 24.  Please know you can always contact the school or email your child's teachers if you have any questions or concerns.
Terry Fox Run:  Tomorrow, September 17 is the official launch of our Terry Fox Fundraiser in support of cancer research.  Students are encouraged to bring a Toonie for Terry and may wear casual wear for doing so.  We have a school goal to fundraise $2000 for cancer research and students were given information today as to how they can support.  Students who fundraise $25 or more before September 29  will be invited to a pizza lunch.  Students will also participate in a school run on September 23, so please ensure they wear athletic wear and bring a water bottle.  Go lightning!
Athletics is fully underway with soccer, cross country, and volleyball in full play; how wonderful to see our youth participating in sports and recreation again.  As well, we have started auditions for the school musical, choir, and lots of clubs…we encourage you child to try new activities and take risks.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Daryl Martin Attendance Message At SWL attendance is taken for each of the seven periods of the day.  If your child misses any part of a day or is late for a period you will now receive an attendance summary of all the periods not just the period missed.
The e-mail you will receive says, in part:
“This email is to inform you that your child, (Child's name), has been marked as absent or late for either part or the whole day on (Date).
Below you will see some common attendance information:  “P" before the name of the class that means the child was present for that class “A" before the name of the class means the child was absent for the class “AP" before the name of the class means the child is absent but a parent called “L" before the name of the class means the child was late for the class “FE" before the name of the class means the child was on a family holiday or event “LVE" before the name of the class means the child left early
If you receive a call regarding your child's attendance, please check your PowerSchool account for detailed attendance information.  You can log in to your account at any time during the day to see the information as it is there once the teacher has submitted attendance each period of the day.
