Personal Belongings

Bicycles

We certainly encourage active living practices with children such as riding a bicycle to school. Upon arrival at the school and for the safety of all students, cyclists are expected to walk bicycles on school grounds during school hours. When bicycles are brought to school they should be locked in the bicycle rack provided. The school cannot be responsible for bicycles damaged or stolen while they are at school.

Card Playing

Card playing and games of chance are not allowed at Sir Winston Churchill High School.

Care of Personal Property

The school is not responsible for the loss or damage of personal property. Students are advised to leave items of value at home and not share their locker combinations.

Lost & Found

Students are advised not to leave valuables or money in their lockers, PE change rooms or any place where they are not fully secured. We recommend that you leave valuables at home. All lost and found articles are to be turned into the Business Office. The school does not assume responsibility for lost or stolen articles.

Personal Electronic Devices

Our school has a Digital Citizenship plan and an Acceptable Use Policy that addresses the appropriate use of electronic devices at school.

Ultimately, we are expecting our students to be responsible with their technology, in line with acceptable business and societal norms, while maintaining behaviours that foster academic excellence.

Before School

Students can use all devices until the first bell at 8:15 AM, which is the beginning of tutorials.

Lunch

Students can use their devices freely from the time they leave their classes until the first bell of afternoon classes at 12:20 PM.

After School

Students can use their devices immediately after school.

Between Classes

Students are allowed to check messages and text, provided that this does NOT result in being late for class.

During Spares

Students can use their devices in the CAFETERIA providing that they are used nonverbally (no phone conversations, external speaker use) and they are not to be a distraction to the classes that occasionally are held in the South corner. The goal is to allow for learning use and reasonable personal use in keeping with principles of Digital Citizenship.

At ALL TIMES

We expect students to:

  • Keep ringers on silent or vibrate (silent for class)
  • You are not to be a distraction to others
  • Follow device etiquette rules

The device policy above pertains to student activities OUTSIDE of classes.  Within classes and teacher supervised activities, teachers will set their own device policy just as they would with any other behavioural issue affecting classroom management.  In their own classes, teachers have the final say regarding the use of ANY personal technology.

Skateboards, Inline Skates and Scooters

These items are a safety concern. Calgary Board of Education prohibits the use of these items on school property.
