We follow the CBE traditional calendar. The calendar sets common start and end days, non-instructional days and holidays. For our school’s additional non-instructional days, late entries, early dismissal days and events, see our school calendar page.​

The Calgary Board of Education continues to plan for the health measures that may be in place for the next school year. More details will be shared with families before the first day of classes.

Back to School Information

First Day of Classes

Our first day of classes is Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2021 and the school office is open to parents by appointment only on Aug 27, 2021 at 10:00am; August 30 8:30-3:00pm and August 31 8:30-3:00pm. Sunalta families will receive a welcome email at the end of August with instructions as to where student's will meet their teacher on the first day of school and will not follow the soft-entry times until September 2. Kindergarten students will follow a staggered entry process which will be sent by email.

Grade 1 - 6 Monday to Thursday

Soft Entry - 8:31am (no outside supervision. Students may come in and prepare for classroom instruction)

Morning 8:41 – 12:00 PM 
Lunch 12:00 PM – 12:45 PM 
Afternoon 12:45 PM – 3:20 PM

Kindergarten Monday to Thursday

Morning Class 8:41 AM to 11:40 AM

Afternoon Class 12:22 PM to 3:20 PM

Fridays Grades 1- to 6     8:41 AM to 12:12 PM (Early Dismissal)

Kindergarten class alternates morning and afternoon classes 8:41 AM to 11:40 AM

Student Supply Lists

Basic school supplies are provided and notes will come home occasionally regarding extra supplies that your child may require throughout the year.

Students should bring a backpack for carrying library books and lunch back and forth from home. Students require a set of shoes for safe indoor use in the gym.

Noon Supervision

Sunalta Student Care provides our noon supervision for Grades 1-6 students that stay at Sunalta for lunch. Registration forms and information regarding the program will be available in September 2021.

Kindergarten

Kindergarten classes begin on Sept. 1. We will have a staggered entry on Sept. 1 and 2. Parents will receive information by email regarding dates and times.. On Sept. 3 there will be no kindergarten classes. Full programming begins on September 7 after the long weekend. Kindergarten am and pm students alternate Fridays. ​​Do You Have a MyCBE / PowerSchool Parent Account?

Parents who have not already done so, must create an account in MyCBE / PowerSchool to:

  • Pay fees or apply for a waiver

  • Register for transportation and lunch supervision

  • View student progress

To create a new account, go to www.cbe.ab.ca/mycbe and click on Create Parent Account. You will need to have your child(ren)’s CBE Student ID Number and use your email on file at the school.​

​​Fees and Waivers

School fees will be charged to families starting in October. Online fee payment is the simplest and most convenient way to pay school fees. Parents can use their online account to pay fees or apply for a waiver at: www.cbe.ab.ca/mycbe.

​​​Yellow School Bus Tra​nsportation

Yellow school bus routes for the 2021-22 school year are created o​ver the summer and based on the addresses submitted before the pre-registration deadline in June. Transportation continues to accept registrations after the deadline; however, students are added to the closest existing stop with available space. Processing times could be up to six weeks at the beginning of the school year due to volume.

Your bus stop location and time will be available in your MyCBE / PowerSchool account by mid-August.

Conditional riders can also register using MyCBE / PowerSchool. Applications will be considered after eligible riders registrations have been processed.
