Cell Phones / Electronic Devices Best Kept at Home
We ask that students not to bring cell phones and other electronic devices to school. If they are brought to school and used during school hours (8:00 am to 2:30 pm: recesses and lunch supervision or while on the school bus) they may be confiscated by staff and only returned when a parent is able to come to the school to pick up such devices. We provide students with access to a phone in emergency circumstances (not to arrange for last minute play dates) so cell phones are not necessary.
As a safety device outside of school hours and after getting off the school bus (if applicable), cell phones have value. During school hours, cell phones should be kept in the bottom of a student’s backpack and turned off. Electronic devices (IPods, electronic games, etc) discourage students from being active and can lead to conflict (bully-type behaviours such as “You can play but he/she can’t”). All cell phones/electronic devices can also be broken / damaged by other students. The school will not be held responsible should such devices become lost, stolen or damaged. To be safe, please keep such devices at home.
