Mitten Donation: Thank you to the School Council for the mitten donation. Each class now has a selection of mittens that will be given to students should they need a pair. Just a reminder, if your child receives a pair of mittens, they are yours to keep!

Getting Ready for Outdoor Learning in the Cold Weather:

As children work and play outside several times over the course of the day, often some of their outdoor clothing becomes quite wet and uncomfortable to wear outside again. One example of this are the children’s mittens and gloves.
In addition, not all children are coming to school with coats each day. We understand that it is difficult to predict what to wear some days as the weather in [...]

Principal's Message

Happy New Year!

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday break and everyone is successfully transitioning back to a more regular routine. The staff is feeling well rested and looking forward to welcoming their students back.
As we start the new term, teachers, in conjunction with student input and curricular expectations, are busy designing worthwhile and rigorous learning tasks to engage students across all disciplines. In addition, they are also intentionally focusing on specific areas of need to support our students. We spent our first day back from the Winter Break participating in professional learning sessions aligned with the goals of our School Development Plan. These goals were determined after analysing student learning data and perception data from the previous school year. In November, our Draft 2019-20 School Development Plan achievement and instructional goals in the disciplines of Literacy, Numeracy and Well-Being for Learning were shared with the School Council. In December, after consultation and feedback from our Dialogue Session and online survey with parents, our 2019-20 School Development Plan was finalized. You can find a copy of our 2019-20 School Development Plan posted on our website under About Us, Our School.
Yesterday, teachers learned how to use a new basic fact assessment tool and they will be using it to complete a subtraction basic facts assessment for each child during the month of January. The information gathered will be used to inform teachers of the next appropriate instructional steps for children and to inform our progress towards supporting our students in this area. You will see the results of this assessment for your child on PowerSchool posted at the end of January.
As part of CBE’s Assessment and Reporting, our first term report cards were handed out on Thursday, Dec. 19, 2019. If your family was away on that day, teachers will send the report card home with your child their first day back.
Alberta Education requires that Individual Program Plans (for those children who have them) are required to be reviewed and signed mid-year. Please note the date set aside for this is Friday, Jan. 17 (a change from the initial date of Jan. 31). Teachers will be contacting those families with children on an IPP to confirm a time that works best.
Just a reminder, weekly updates from teachers and the office come out each Friday. The update from the office is posted to the main page of our website by early the following week and archived updates are located under About Us, News Centre. Please refer to these updates for general curricular information that you can use to support your child at school as well as upcoming events to be aware of. Our yearly calendar is also available on our website under About Us, Calendar. You may wish to refer to this calendar for advanced planning as it varies slightly from the CBE calendar.
We are looking forward to a fun second part of the school year with wonderful learning experiences and opportunities to connect as a school community!
