Attendance

Student Attendance

Daily attendance is extremely important for success and continuity in learning. School starts promptly at 8:45 AM and 12:50 PM Students need to arrive on time and ready to learn. Please help your child to be proactive in achieving this important goal.

Student Absences

Telephone for Safety Program

If your child is going to be absent from school or late, please phone the school office. If we do not receive a call and your child is not in class, we are required to contact you. The school phone number is 403-777-6390. To report a student absent or late on the Attendance Line, please dial “1” when you call in. To reach the main office, dial “0.” If your child is late arriving for school, they must check in at the office to pick up their attendance card before proceeding to their classroom.

For the safety of students, we have a procedure to follow when a student is leaving the school. Learn more about these procedures on our Security page.

Recess

All students are encouraged to bring a mid morning snack to be enjoyed during our daily recess break. In keeping with the Calgary Board of Education Nutrition Policy, we request that children bring healthy, nutritious snacks. Sunnyside School Staff provide outdoor supervision 15 minutes prior to the start of school, at morning recess and 15 minutes prior to afternoon classes. All children will be expected to go outside at recess times, weather permitting. For safety's sake, students need appropriate indoor and outdoor footwear.
