Sunnyside's Extreme Weather Procedures
CBE recommends that children stay inside on days when the temperature is colder than -20 degrees Celsius with the wind chill. Sunnyside School follows this recommendation for safe outdoor play.
On days when it is raining, extremely cold or when there is a high wind chill factor, students are asked to proceed directly into the school upon arrival. This is indicated by the sign that hangs in the window beside the student entrance door. Students will be directed by staff to the courtyard area where a staff member will supervise the children until the bell rings.
On these days, students will remain inside the school for their morning and lunch recess breaks. During the morning recess break, children will be supervised in their classrooms where they have the opportunity to enjoy their recess snack, use the washrooms and participate in classroom activities. During the lunch time recess break, students will be supervised throughout the school and will be provided with a variety of activities to choose from.
