Learning Commons at the CBE

Today’s learners cannot imagine life without the internet and supporting technology. The concept of the traditional library is changing to include technology, online tools and spaces for collaboration and exploration.

Our Learning Commons

Is the hub for our school learning community. It is for available to all students and is for research, reading and quiet study.

Furniture promotes flexible workspaces for individuals and groups. Students construct meaning and form individual and collective knowledge through discovery, creativity and inquiry. They become critical consumers of information, effective problem solvers and effective communicators.

The Learning Commons:

  • Requires a significant change in philosophy (shift in perspective and focus).
  • Is a center for intellectual community for both the individual and collective.
  • Re-conceptualizes the Collection (books, online resources, film, audio, multi-media, personal devices…)
  • Is a media saturated environment.
