Staggered Start (Sept 1-4)

Families will receive an email prior to their re-entry day indicating their child's homeroom cohort and teacher(s).  If you aren't getting school emails, please subscribe or check your junk folders.

On these first days, parents can drop their students off and pick them up in front of the school, along Falshire Drive. Please do not drive into the school parking lot or the community centre parking lot. Parents must remain outside of the school and physically distance when on school property. Please complete drop off/pick up quickly, in order to avoid traffic congestion.

Students, look for your homeroom cohort sign and meet your teachers on the field between 8:45 and 9 a.m. on your first day. Please wear your mask and practice physical distancing.

Teachers will provide each cohort with information and will guide students into the building and to their classroom, through a designated door.

Re-Entry (20-21)

Dear Terry Fox Families

I am looking forward to welcoming our school community to the 2020-21 school year. I want to assure you we are doing everything possible to ensure the health and safety of all our community members.

As you are aware on July 21, Education Minister Adriana LaGrange announced that all schools across the province will return to classes under Scenario 1 – in-school classes resume (near normal with health measures). In response, plans are well underway in our school to welcome our community of students as we adhere to current health guidelines.

CBE’s Scenario 1 Information can be found on our website and outlines the measures we are taking to provide for the health and safety of our students. Please refer to this document for detailed information on health measures, physical set-up of schools, cleaning of schools, daily operation of schools and transportation. The actions described in the document follow the guidelines provided by Alberta Education’s K-12 School Re-entry COVID-19 information: Guidance for schools re-entry Scenario 1.  We continue to refine information in our re-entry planning based on provincial and CBE guidance.

Please visit our school website for information on the actions and processes that are being applied to the specific context of our school.

Sincerely,

Leslie McRae, Principal

Please Welcome our new Principal

Please join me in welcoming Leslie McRae as the new principal of Terry Fox School – 2020-21. During the next few weeks we will work on the transition.

Here is a note from Leslie –

Hello Staff of Terry Fox,

I am honoured and excited to be the new Principal at Terry Fox School, and look forward to getting to know you.

I grew up in many towns throughout B.C. and The Yukon, and moved to Calgary in 2005.  In the last 17 years I have worked in a variety of school settings, primarily with Grades 4-9.  My teaching background includes Special Education, Humanities, Math and Science.

For the past two years I have been the Assistant Principal at Twelve Mile Coulee School (Tuscany), and previous to that I was the Assistant Principal at Sherwood School (Ogden/Lynnwood) for four years.

Through the remainder of June, I will be working with Ms. Hamlin to ensure a smooth and successful transition for our staff and students. I am passionate about education for middle-years students and I’m excited for what the future holds.

If you would like to connect with me directly, please email me at legmcrae@cbe.ab.ca

New Principal coming September 2020!

Dear Families of Terry Fox 2020-21 school year,

It has been my pleasure to be at Terry Fox for the last number of years. Together we have built many relationships and have met with such success. Our survey results tell us that we have significantly improved in the areas of safe and caring schools, education quality, citizenship and overall school improvement. We have a Learning Commons, grade centers and a staff that is always committed to your child’s well-being and learning engagement. I am proud of our students and our school. However, at this time, I have resigned – effective June 30, 2020 - from the Calgary Board of Education. It was a difficult decision and one I did not take lightly in terms of the situation we are in with world events but necessary for my family. Our transition to a new principal will be in the coming months and we invite your input.

The Calgary Board of Education welcomes input from parents, students and staff regarding the programming and leadership attributes you value. Your input is taken into consideration as part of the hiring process and will support the selection of a new principal for Terry Fox School.  It is also shared directly with the successful candidate to inform their entry plan into the school.  An online survey will be available on the Terry Fox School website from Tuesday, June 2 to Monday, June 8, 2020 at 4:00 pm.  You may also click on this link:  Terry Fox School survey

Sincerely,

Patricia Hamlin

provincial and local response to COVID-19

Dear Parents,

Based on the changing provincial and local response to COVID-19, the CBE has given us direction to postpone Student Led Teacher Conference's scheduled for Thursday March 19 and Friday March 20th.

All CBE schools have been given direction to postpone or cancel events that include populations from other schools and/or parents or other community members, such as Parent-Teacher Interviews, celebrations of learning, drama/musical performances, dances, athletic competitions, etc. This decision is effective from Mar. 12 until the end of March break. This decision will be revisited during March break to determine whether events should be rescheduled.

Events outside of school hours that include the regular student and staff population of the school (school clubs, practices, etc) and scheduled field trips may continue at this time.

I know this may be disappointing news. Students and staff have spent a significant amount of time preparing for this event, but the health of our community is our priority.

For the most up to date information about the CBE’s approach to COVID-19 and the actions we are taking, please visit our website. Answers to frequently asked questions will continue to be posted as information becomes available.

Thank you,

Patricia Hamlin
