Security

Visitor Sign-In

All visitors to the school must check-in at the office. If the visitor is moving throughout the school they will be given a “Visitor” badge to wear. If students or staff sees a person not wearing a CBE badge, “Visitor” badge or “Volunteer” badge, the person will be escorted to the office to sign-in and receive a badge.

School Access

Students are assigned doors nearest their classrooms for regular entry and exit. For security purposes, these doors are locked after morning, lunch and recess entry. Students arriving late will use the front doors and check in at the office. Students use their assigned doors for exit at the end of the day.

Outdoor Supervision

Staff will provide supervision on the playground in the mornings, beginning at 9:00, and over the lunch hour. Students should not arrive prior to 9:00 unless supervised by a parent or guardian. There is no staff supervision provided after school. Students using the playground after 3:53 MUST have parent/guardian permission, and parent supervision is preferred as they are responsible for their child’s safety at this time.

School Boundaries

Students are expected to play in in designated areas in the field and on the compound. These boundaries are reviewed with students. A map is posted in the school office for parents.

Picking Up Students

It is most efficient to meet your child at his/her designated entry/exit door. If you have multiple children, you may wish to create a plan where one child meets his/her sibling(s) at one classroom and the siblings exit together from one door where the parent/guardian will be waiting. Let the staff know if we can support the family with establishing a safe routine.

School Telephone Use

Telephones in the office are used for conducting school business and in dealing with emergencies as they arise. The telephones located in the classrooms may be used by students, with their teacher’s permission.

Lockdowns

All CBE schools are required to practice lockdowns in the same way that we practice fire drills. The procedures for lockdowns are developed with the Calgary Police Service and are part of each school’s Emergency Response Plan. If you have questions about lockdown drills or lockdown procedures, please contact your principal.

Evacuation Procedures

In the event that the school needs to be evacuated for any reason, all staff have been trained according to CBE standards. All schools have a primary and a secondary evacuation site. In the event of an evacuation, you will receive an email, phone or SMS notification from the school.
