Learning Commons / Library

What is a Learning Commons?

“A learning commons is an inclusive, flexible, learner-centred, physical and/or virtual space for collaboration, inquiry, imagination and play to expand and deepen learning.”

The Tom Baines Learning Commons is at the centre of our school learning community. We have reopened our space for classes to come in to use computers, do research, and borrow books again! Students will be able to browse the shelves or use our online catalogue e-Library. You can search by title, author, subject or even genre...just remember to choose our Tom Baines school in the library field instead of ‘ALL’ libraries. Click the eLibrary link at the bottom of this page and then click on ‘Using eLibrary’ for more information. When you have found a book you’d like, come into the learning commons or click on the link to our Student Book Request Form, and fill out the details. For digital resources, you can log into our D2L Brightspace, and under ‘Content’, you’ll find a number of online resources, including textbooks.

If you have any questions or would like more information, please email Ms. Rankin, our Learning Commons Assistant at sjrankin@cbe.ab.ca
