Code of the Boa
The Code of the Boa is a model of positive youth development that encompasses four core values: belonging, mastery, independence, and generosity. The model is based on the aboriginal medicine wheel – a sacred symbol representing the wholeness of life. All four quadrants must be intact in order to achieve a balanced and successful life.
Belonging: A positive sense of belonging nurtures self-esteem, self-worth, and equips youth with the ability to develop healthy relationships with others.
Mastery: Developing skills that help youth produce and exercise competence, achievement, and control is an important part of their development.
Generosity: Youth should learn to understand the value of giving back to the community.
Independence: Youth must accept responsibility and develop essential life skills. They must be empowered to understand the impact of their choices.
