Getting Students to School

You can register your child for yellow school bus transportation online using your MyCBE/PowerSchool or by completing a transportation registration form. Register every school year.

Please visit the CBE website to find more information on fees and service levels for the 2021-22 school year.

To be included in the yellow school bus route planning for September, parents must register by the June 6, 2021 deadline. The more registrations we receive by the deadline, the more efficient route planning will be for September. Transportation continues to accept registrations after the deadline, and students are added to the closest existing stop with space, within the distance guideline. Processing times could be up to 6 weeks at the beginning of the school year due to volume.

Yellow school bus registrations can be cancelled by Sept. 30 with no financial penalty. Cancellation forms must be completed before a pro-rated refund can be considered. No refunds will be processed for service cancelled after April 30 or for individual trip delays.

Parents/guardians whose children access yellow bus service can view the status of their bus using the MyBusStop App or on My School Bus Monitor.

Visit CBE Transportation for forms and more information.

Conditional Riders

Students who are not attending the designated school for their program, or who are not within the transportation service area, may be able to access existing service if there is a suitable stop on the existing bus route. Fees will not be waived for conditional riders.

Criteria for conditional riders:

  • Must access an existing stop

  • Must be room on the bus

  • Must pay the transportation fee

  • No additional bus routes will be implemented to accommodate conditional riders

  • Must wait for written approval from Transportation Services before starting to ride the bus

Conditional riders are not permitted to ride the bus until it is determined there is space on the bus and riders have been approved by Transportation Services.

Visit CBE Transportation for forms and more information.

Busing

Bus Rules at University School

If your child is a bus user, but will not be taking the bus home, please inform our office staff so that we do not hold up the bus while we account for your child. Bus pick up/drop off maps are available at the school three days prior to school starting in the fall and are posted on our website. These maps let parents/guardians know their child’s bus stop and times in their communities.

The buses will wait until approximately 3:30 each day before they leave the school. Please encourage your children to go straight to the bus after school. If a child misses the bus, a parent/guardian will be informed and required to pick students up. Kindergarten and Grade 1 students need to be met at the bus stop. If there is no one to collect them the driver will return them to the school and they will then need to be collected from the school. For older children we recommend that all families have a plan in place in the event that your child may be unable to get into their home.

Bus safety is reviewed annually. We also encourage parents/guardians to discuss safe and good bus behavior with children. Bus safety information can be found on the Calgary Board of Education website at Busing & Transportation. If you have any bus-related concerns, please let us know as soon as possible so that issues can be dealt with.

Queries relating to transportation issues including changing bus stop locations in communities should be dealt with through the CBE Transportation department, which can be contacted at 403-817-7433. If problems arise with service (late buses, missed stops, etc.), please contact First Student Transportation at 403-531-3900.

During bad weather you can get up-to-date busing information from the following website: www.myschoolbusmonitor.ca. Please note that buses are often affected by traffic delays during bad weather and can be late. Please do not leave your child unattended at bus stops during extreme conditions.
