Full Day Community Kindergarten
For the 2023-2024 school year, our school will offer a full-day kindergarten program. The CBE receives funding for half-day kindergarten programs from Alberta Education. As a school system, we choose to supplement the half-day funding to provide full-day programs at a small number of schools that meet specific criteria. The list of schools offering full-day programs is reviewed annually, and the data is used to determine which schools have the greatest need and meet the established criteria. Please be advised that the data used to determine which schools will offer a full-day kindergarten program is updated each spring, and the schools that offer full-day kindergarten may change from year to year.
This program caters to the students living in the Valley View School designated boundaries. The Kindergarten Program Statement will be driven by an integrated curriculum fostering curiosity, exploration and play. In addition, there are seven areas of learning that meet the social, physical, intellectual, cultural, creative and emotional needs of young children.
Science Kindergarten Program
The science program is a program of choice that is intended for students that demonstrate a love of science. The Kindergarten Program Statement will be driven by an integrated curriculum
Please send your child in everyday play clothing that will allow your child to be involved in a variety of activities such as painting, block building, outdoor play and sitting on the floor. Please send your child with an extra air of clothing in case of accidents.
It is requested that each child wear a backpack to school every day. The children will be carrying notices, folders, library books and artwork back and forth to school. Please check your child’s backpack each day to find notices or forms that are important in their folder.
Snack and Lunch
Every day your child will have an opportunity to eat a snack and have lunch. It is recommended that your child’s snack is small and nutritious. A piece of fruit or vegetable and a water bottle would be sufficient. Please do not send any products that have nuts or have been made in a facility where nuts may be processed.
Children are not allowed to share snacks with peers, due to the possibility of allergies or dietary restrictions. There are no microwaves available to heat up lunches. Please try to send lunches and snacks that are litterless or have minimal garbage as we try to help our environment at the school.
Please inform the school of any allergies or other serious medical conditions your child may have.
Each child will require a pair of runners that they can independently fasten. These runners will stay at the school. Velcro or slip on shoes are preferable.
Toys & Birthday Celebrations
Children are asked to leave their toys at home. Toys can be lost or damaged at school, and so we ask that they remain home. Please do not send food or candy with your child on their birthday. Due to dietary restrictions and allergies, we ask that a special item be shared instead.
Parents are an integral part of the school community. To be an approved volunteer with the CBE you must complete a Volunteer registration form and provide photo ID to the school. You will be offered opportunities by the teachers to volunteer in school, and/or for off-site activities.
All volunteers must complete a CBE volunteer registration form and provide photo ID. The school will then create a letter for you to take to any police station, or use to apply online. This paperwork requires a few weeks to be processed and is valid for 5 years.
Volunteers are asked to keep all classroom observations confidential.
Library Book Exchange
Your child will be participating in a library book exchange. Each week they will have the opportunity to choose a book to take home and read with you.
Report Cards and Parent-Teacher Conferences for Kindergarten
During the year, two formal report cards will be issued and three parent-teacher conferences will be scheduled. Specific dates will be communicated in the fall.
