Attendance Line: 403-777-7870 Ext.1.
Absences
Achievement in school is very closely related to attendance. Students are legally required to attend as regularly as possible.
Parents are asked to phone the school at the number above if their son/daughter will be absent, late or need to leave school early. Excessive unexcused absences from school will result in an Attendance Improvement Plan. Chronic unexcused absences may lead to a referral to the Attendance Board.
Lates
Students who are not in their class (with their school supplies for that period) are considered absent. Late students are to report to their teacher once they arrive so the teacher can change the absence to a late.
Students are responsible for arriving for all classes on time and speaking with their teachers directly if an attendance was inputted incorrectly. *Please note that parents can access the record of attendance for their student(s) on PowerSchool.
Early Dismissal
If your student needs to leave school early, please call the attendance line in the morning. This gives the office time to record the information and email the teacher in charge that the student will be leaving. The student can then leave the class at the appropriate time and head directly outside.
Extended Absences
When it has been determined that a student will be absent for an extended period (3 days or more), and he/she is capable of doing school work at home, parents are invited to connect with their student's teacher via email.
1. Illness
When possible, students should utilize D2L/Brightspace and Google Classroom to stay in touch with what’s happening in class. Students are asked to see their teachers when they return to school following an illness. Should a student be away from school due to illness for an extended period of time, we would encourage you to contact your child’s teacher and they will help ensure your student has the necessary work for them to complete at home.
2. Vacation, Out of School Activities or Field Trips
We certainly understand the value of a family vacation, and recognize that it is not always possible to take that family vacation during school holiday time. However, it is very difficult for teachers to assume the responsibility for “re-teaching” the concepts, and ensuring that students are “caught up” when they return.
We need your help. Should your family choose to enjoy a vacation during school time, we would request the following:
- Families are strongly encouraged to schedule vacation time that coincides with school scheduled breaks.
- Please ensure that an Extended Leave School Acknowledgment From has been completed by the parent and the teachers and turned into the office.
- In either case, it is the responsibility of the student to see the teacher, and to make up the work missed.
