Assigned Teachers and Class lists
During the last two weeks in June, teachers meet and create class lists for the following school year. It is important to understand
the process that staff engages in to make these decisions for all children. A
great deal of time, thought and discussion occurs throughout this decision
making process and consideration of many factors is given in order to create
heterogeneous groupings of students. These include balancing the following for
each class: learning strengths, learning challenges, overall achievement levels,
social/behavioral challenges, work habits, special learning needs, ELL needs,
gender, positive social connections, personalities, and input from the previous
teacher. Please know that your child’s placement certainly will reflect
carefully considered decisions on the part of the staff in order to provide
balanced classrooms where each child feels valued, safe, supported, challenged
and successful. For this reason we do not take parent requests for placement of children in a specific class or with a specific teacher. Staffing changes occur throughout the summer.
