Flex Fridays are a mechanism we use at West Dover to explore different ways we can create authentic tasks for students. If you are familiar with option classes, Flex Friday sessions are very similar. One main difference is that students in Grades K-2 and 3-5 are grouped according to their interests and not by their age.
The major learning intention for each session is to increase students sense of community and deepen their understanding of how to have healthy relationships with other people. These sessions are an opportunity for us to connect more closely with our community members and engage them in the learning environment. We are very pleased this year to be offering sessions that have parents, health nurses, seniors and hair stylists working with our staff and students in sessions on cosmotology, healthy cooking, hygiene and indoor games.
This year we are trying to offer three cycles of Flex Fridays that consist of four or five consecutive Fridays.
Cycle #1: Oct. 19, 26, Nov. 2, 9 and Nov. 16
